As part of the oldest animal welfare charities, the centre is backed up by years of experience in rehoming animals successfully. Their dedicated animal behaviour team assess the individual personalities of animals, and address any behavioural problems before rehoming. Potential owners are also 'screened' to ensure that they are matched to just the right pet for them. Cats and dogs are vet checked, wormed, de-flead, microchipped and neutered before rehoming

Wood Green Animal Shelters are a charitable organisation that take in and rehome over 6,000 animals a year. In addition to dogs and cats the Shelter also cares for small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs and field animals including horses and sheep. At the Godmanchester Shelter there are plenty of things to see apart from the animals such as a Garden of Remembrance and a beautiful water garden, the Godmanchester Shelter provides a great day out for all of the family. Events are held most weekends and the facilities available for hire include an Olympic size arena and a fully operational restaurant.

Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary is a 45 acre farm in the Pennine foothills above the Rossendale valley in Ramsbottom. This sanctuary is the only one of its kind in the North of England. It provides a refuge for over 400 animals ranging from cats and dogs to goats, horses, rabbits and other animals for the rest of their lives. Our priority at Bleakholt is the welfare of animals.

Founded in 1986, the sanctuary has helped a huge variety of sick and homeless animals over the years, finding new caring homes for some of them to go to, and becoming a permanent home to many others who cannot be rehomed. They sanctuary relies completely on public support, including pet sponsorship, and the 'Friends of Redgate' membership scheme. The sanctuary is open to visitors, with wheelchair access, toilets, a cafe and shop.

HULA stands for 'Home for Unwanted and Lost Animals'. Since 1972 they have provided a refuge for abandoned or unwanted animals until they can be re-homed. You can visit HULA on one of it's open Sundays, or visit their web site for more details of this charity's invaluable work. They also have a support shop in Woburn Sands which brings in much needed funds.

Mistley park is more than just a rescue centre, it is a great day out for the family! Stroll along their woodland walk and visit the environment centre, then relax in the tea room and browse the gift shop. All profits go towards the welfare of the 2,500 animals in their care.

The centre works mainly with dogs and horses and since opening in 1995 has rescued and re-homed more than 6,000 dogs and almost 200 horses, ponies and donkeys. In addition thousands of cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, reptiles and birds have all been given a helping hand to start new lives.
