Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc.- West Shore ShelterFounded in 1911, the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc. is dedicated to helping people and pets increase their quality of life. We operate two shelters, one on the East Shore and one on the West Shore of the Susquehanna River. Together, the two facilities service Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, and northwestern York Counties of Pennsylvania. Most of the animals received each year at our two locations are cats and dogs; however, the Humane Society accepts and cares for all types of animals, contacting third party agencies for assistance when necessary. The Humane Society relies entirely on support from individuals, businesses, corporations, and foundations to provide funding for our people and pets programs. As a private, non-profit organization, we do not receive any direct government grants or funding from federal, state, or county government (except for services rendered).
