We first opened our doors to rescue in January of 2004 and we have taken in over 200 ferrets. Who would have thought that there would be such a need in my area! We have had so many come in that have touched our hearts dearly! We started to do Ferret Education Day at our local pet store (thank you Dee and Cathy for helping us get started) and have since developed a wonderful working relationship with the store employees. We have met a lot of wonderful ferret owners and have helped a lot of new ferret owners. We enjoy educating the public about these awesome little fur balls!!

We've been around officially for two years. We have a shelter in Saginaw County but our office is at the Flint address. We are primarily a dog rescue although we've placed birds and rabbits once or twice. We are an all-breed rescue. We specialize in big, black dogs, and mixed breeds because they are the last to get adopted but we love them all. We are presently self-funded so we could use any help we can get, especially need volunteers. We are a non-profit rescue and have begun the process for getting out 501c3 non-profit license.

The Larimer Humane Society is an open-door shelter. Unlike no-kill facilities, we offer care to every animal in need. In order to be a no-kill shelter we would have to limit the number and types of animals we accept. We don’t turn any animal away and last year, the Humane Society sheltered over 9000 domestic animals and over 2500 wild animals, and the Animal Protection and Control Department answered over 20,000 calls. In 2004 the Larimer Humane Society adopted over 3,000 into loving new homes.

bandoned Pet Rescue (APR) founded in 1996, is a 501 ( c ) (3) IRS tax-exempt, qualified charitable organization that rescues and shelters abandoned, abused, and neglected pets, rehabilitates them and finds them new homes. APR is one of the largest no kill animal shelters in South Florida, where volunteers perform the duties of running the shelter operations on a day to day basis. APR is devoted to the welfare of all animals. Most of the over 500 animals are Cats, Dogs, Bunnies, Birds, Parrots, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Mice, Rats, Iguanas, and other animals in need of help. While pet over population is declining throughout the country, the number of animals brought to South Florida shelters is increasing. APR's primary goal is to assemble a no-kill community. This is quite a daunting task, nonetheless, APR is making a valuable contribution to the animal community and will continue to do so as long as support is provided from generous donors.
