Motor City Ferrets, formally established in April 2000, is a private, no-kill shelter for homeless ferrets. We operate in our home in Hazel Park. Our “staff” (ha) consists of two busy working people, Nanci & Alex. We can tend to up to 60 ferrets at one time, but our most comfortable level is perhaps 35 or less, depending on how many groups/individuals make up the overall number. We moved into our first home in December 2003 and are in the midst of remodeling...with our schedules we plan to be in the midst of the remodeling for some months/years/decades/eons to come (oh the frustration – HA)! We are a private rescue and therefore receive no formal funding from state agencies or animal welfare organizations. We fund the rescue out of our personal incomes and offset some of the costs with adoption fees, boarding fees, the sale of ferret supplies and generous donations.

Our main goal is to find permanent, loving homes for the cats and dogs who are sick, injured, abandoned or unwanted and at risk of being euthanized.
Each animal is seen by one of our veterinarians, updated on all vaccines, spayed or neutered, tested for diseases and given a health certificate. Dogs are also put on Heartworm and Flea preventative. Our animals are placed in a loving foster home until a good, permanent home for them can be found.
Each pet receives daily one-on-one care and attention while in foster care. We work on training and socialization skills to help each pet be the best they can be. Pets do not leave foster care until we feel they are emotionally and physically ready to be placed into a permanent home.

The Shiawassee Humane Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, that started in 1954. We moved to the current location at 2752 W. Bennington Rd. In the late 1970's. We are a low kill facility, by this we mean that we only euthanize terminally ill animals that have no quality of life left, and those who do not pass our temperment evaluations, and who pose a threat to the general public. Our facility houses up to 900 cats and dogs each year. Since we can only house so many animals at one time, we have "waiting" lists to bring your animals in.

Twisted Oaks Animal Rescue, the Exotic Division of the Animal Protection Coalition, is a 501(c)3 not for profit Organization. It is our mission to provide a temporary rest stop for unwanted, abused or neglected animals. Although we try to never turn away an animal in need, our main areas of focus are Guinea Pigs, goats, pigs, llamas, horses, sheep and fowl. We are a private home in Southwestern Michigan, and we provide our own time and resources for shelter, quality food, training and rehabilitation to care for animals in need of a safe haven. We operate soley on donations, and any funds received go towards food, medical needs, bedding, and anything else involved in animal care.
Our goal is to end the cycle of abuse and neglect which is all to often found with "livestock". We strive to find PERMANENT placement where these animals will be treated like members of the family, are loved & nurtured for the duration of their lives. If you have room in your heart and your home, please consider adopting or sponsoring an animal who needs a "second chance".
