Animal Care and Control is part of Palm Beach County Government. Our shelter was started in 1969. We are located at 7100 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, Florida (five miles west of I-95).
In 1974, the shelter became a division of the Public Safety Department. Programs and services were expanded to keep pace with the growing human and animal population. In 1980, the division became fully accredited by the Humane Society of the United States. Animal Care and Control was the first agency in the southeast and the second in the entire nation to achieve this distinction.

To provide lost, abused, or abandoned mixed breed dogs and cats with a new loving home. We believe that "Plain mutt" hounds make the best companions! Experienced people come to a homeless hound rescue for their new pet and leave with a life long friend. I believe that a dog or cat in a family is truly a family. And those moments shared will last forever.

MOE-JOEs Family Friends Rescue Inc.
Mo-Joe’s Family Friends was founded in 2005 by Melissa Benfield, who witnessed countless bully breed dogs being over looked in shelters because of their breed type, while their great personalities were ignored. We are a no kill, non profit organization operated solely by donations and the help of volunteers. We are a bully breed rescue, which includes American Pit BullTerrier, Bull Terrier, English Bull Dog, and the French Bull Dog, but even though the bully breeds are our focus we always rescue the animals who have no chance at life, including other breeds of dogs, cats, ferrets, turtles, and well you name it and most likely we have rescued one. All of our animals are in foster homes, where they are kid, cat and dog tested to insure their future homes are a forever home. All of our rescues were saved from certain death from local high kill shelters. Our animals have over come being homeless, emaciated, covered in mange, broken bones, abused, tied to trees and even some have survived parvo. They are up to date on all shots, spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and healthy at the time of adoption.

We are an Animal Control facility that is run by the County Government. We accept owner surrendered pets as well as stray animals. At times we have exotics and livestock. We have our own surgery facility with a contracted veterinarian. We spay and neuter every adopted animal that leaves our facility. We also vaccinate for the major diseases as well as heartworm test dogs and Leukemia/FIV test cats. All dogs have a microchip inserted. Please be aware that if you adopt a pet from us that it will not be ready to go home with you until it has had its surgery. Most animals go home the next day. All animals have to be held "stray" time if they have no owner. Therefore, the animals "stray" time must be up before it can be adopted.

We are currently the only Animal Shelter in Cullman County. We are a County Animal Control and Animal Shelter. We accept animals both stray and owner surrender from all of Cullman County, including the municipalities within the county. We mainly take dogs and cats but have been known to take in a little bit of everything. We rely heavily on donations of food, litter, paper towels, vaccinations, wormer, bleach etc. to keep this facility operating at its best. If you are willing to donate any of the above items, please feel free to come by or call.
We have a very aggressive adoption program and try to place as many of our pets as possible. We have a few foster homes that care for some of our animals as well. However, we NEED more responsible volunteers in this area willing to open their homes to a foster pet. If you are interested in pursuing this please contact us and speak with Candie. Also we need volunteers on a daily basis for different things. If you have some free time and would like to make a difference in the life a an animal, please contact us.
Our adoption rates are $90 for dogs/puppies and $65 for cats/kittens. This price includes the rabies vaccine and the spay or neuter of your new pet. Also whenever available by generous donation, we deworm the pet and give proper vaccines to get you started. This is not included in the adoption just something we throw in for the health of your new pet whenever we have vaccines on hand.
Our business hours are Mon-Fri 9 am till 3:30 pm and most Sat 9 am till 12 noon. We do close one weekend a month so we recommend calling before you come on a Saturday to make sure we are here.
