Hide-E-Hole Ferret Rescue is located in Pittsburgh, PA. We take in unwanted ferrets, get them medical care as needed, resolve any behavior issues, and strive to find good, permanent homes for them. If the ferret is deemed unadoptable (usually due to serious health problems), we will keep that ferret for the rest of its natural life. As a true no-kill shelter, we only euthanize in the case of medical necessity. We rely on the support of volunteers and sponsors to suppport our cause. Any support is appreciated.

We are animal lovers. We hate the idea of putting an animal down -- for any reason. However, unlike other shelters, we take-in all strays -- Owned animals are accepted via a waiting list as soon as room is available. There are times when an animal is simply so vicious that we can not responsibly adopt the pet to a family. We have, at other times, been told by our veterinarian, that it is not humane to extend the life of a very sick animal.

The Pennsylvania Ferret Rescue Association is one of over two hundred ferret shelters in the United States devoted solely to the needs of domestic ferrets and their owners. The PFRA functions as a placement/referral service for individuals seeking to place their ferret(s) in a new home and for persons interested in adopting ferrets. While we no longer accept casual ferret surrenders from private owners, the PFRA works closely with other rescue agencies (e.g. Humane Societies and Rescue Leagues) to ensure that surrendered and confiscated ferrets are not euthanized due to lack of space and resources.

Each year millions of wonderful, healthy dogs and cats
are put to sleep simply because they have no home.
Our mission, at Needy Paws Rescue, is to help save as
many pets as possible while educating the public about
the importance of spaying and neutering. Every animal
in the rescue receives any needed veterinary care and
is placed in a loving foster home where they are
reintroduced into a loving family, before they join yours.
We do not have a shelter or kennel, but homes. Needy
Paws Rescue is strictly non-kill. We try to save as many
lives as possible but our space is limited.

Founded in 1911, the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc. is dedicated to helping people and pets increase their quality of life. We operate two shelters, one on the East Shore and one on the West Shore of the Susquehanna River. Together, the two facilities service Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, and northwestern York Counties of Pennsylvania. Most of the animals received each year at our two locations are cats and dogs; however, the Humane Society accepts and cares for all types of animals, contacting third party agencies for assistance when necessary.
The Humane Society relies entirely on support from individuals, businesses, corporations, and foundations to provide funding for our people and pets programs. As a private, non-profit organization, we do not receive any direct government grants or funding from federal, state, or county government (except for services rendered). We also receive no money from other animal welfare groups, such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the American Humane Association (AHA), or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
