When a dog joins our family, their health is our top priority. Each of our dogs is examined by a veterinarian that tests them for any illnesses. They are neutered/spayed and receive all necessary vaccinations to make them suitable for adoption. A microchip is implanted in each dog’s shoulder, just in case he/she ever gets lost.

Welcome and thank you for visiting our site. Based in South Florida, Friends of Greyhounds is a non-profit (501c3) corporation whose mission is to provide retired racing greyhounds with a caring environment and loving homes and to educate the public about these noble, loyal dogs. Pets In Distress is an all volunteer run "no-kill" rescue group which takes in and places for adoption unwanted pets.
We do not have a shelter but operate as a foster network. This means that we rely solely on volunteers to provide foster homes for our pets until they are permanently placed in adoptive homes.

Homeless dogs come to us from shelters, as strays or by owner-surrender. Once they are in our care, our all-volunteer group works hard to ensure the dogs' physical and emotional needs are met through home-based fostering. During foster care, we evaluate the temperament and activity level of each dog. All the while, we seek that perfect match in a permanent home -- one that best meets the dog's particular needs and most appreciates his/her individual personality.
