ATHENS COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY

For more than twenty-five years, the Athens Area Humane Society has been the sole open-admission shelter in the Athens area for cats and other small domestic animals. Each year, the Shelter cares for nearly 2000 abandoned and stray animals, striving to place as many as possible into loving lifelong homes.

AVALON ANIMAL RESCUE

Avalon Animal Rescue are proud to announce that we began a Dog Grooming Project in 2004. This was made possible through a generous grant from the Athens Foundation. We were able to purchase professional grooming equipment as well as pay a professional groomer to come into the facility and teach the class. This project will provide the inmates with another set of job skills that can be used on the outside, while improving the quality of care for the Avalon dogs in their care. This project is open to any offender currently participating in any of the three dog programs. Our thanks go out to Nanette Rorick, The Athens Foundation, and all the H.C.F. employees who have helped for making this awesome project come to life.
