Badgerland German Shepherd Rescue (BGSR) is an incorporated group of individuals volunteering their time, money, love and efforts to rescue German Shepherd Dogs, whether or not purebred, who have been abandoned, surrendered to animal shelters/humane societies, or surrendered to BGSR by their owners.
General Rescue Information: All "Rescued" German Shepherd Dogs are taken to a veterinarian to be treated for any obvious medical condition, brought current on all shots, and spayed or neutered. Each dog is placed in a loving Foster Home until a suitable permanent home can be found. Our "Rescued" German Shepherd Dogs come in all ages, colors, sizes, and personalities. Rarely do we receive dogs under the age of one year.
Potential new homes are thoroughly pre-screened. Potential adoptive owners must be willing to bring a German Shepherd Dog into their home as a family member. Owners must be prepared to provide proper food and clean water, vaccinations and any other medical expenses, daily exercise, and most of all, lots of love. Our adoption donation averages $175. Adopters are responsible for any shipping expenses for long distance placements.

In 1959, a caring group of volunteers gathered to share a common
and deeply-held concern: a desire to help the thousands of unwanted,
abandoned and mistreated animals of this community.
Their dedication to the welfare of animals led to the creation of the Belleville Area Humane Society.
BAHS depends almost entirely upon the intrest and support of
concerned citizens through donations and membership in the
organization. A Board of Directors is charged with governance of the
organization, including management of policies, finances, physical
plant, operations, personnel, fundraising events, media and public
relations, public outreach activities and all other matters that relate to its purpose and activities.
The main activities of the shelter are carried out by empolyees
(with additional assistance provided by volunteers) under the direction of a manager.
BAHS is a non-profit organization. It's support is derived primarily
from membership fees, donations, bequests, adoption fees and
fundraising activities. Some operating funds are recieved through billed
services to St. Clair Township and the city of Belleville. Grant funds may
also contribute to BAHS operations.

With shelters and pounds available for unwanted or surplus dogs, why is there a need for breed rescue groups? In an ideal world every dog would have a safe and loving home for its entire lifetime. Sadly, we do not live in that ideal world. All kinds of dogs end up in shelters and the shelters have all they can do to find homes for even a small percentage of them. Purebred rescue groups help to ensure that dogs of the breed they love receive a good chance at a better life. We can usually hold dogs longer than a public shelter and often can devote greater resources to individual dogs because we have fewer dogs to deal with. Our experience with the Shar-Pei gives us an advantage over the public shelter when it comes to assessing each dog's temperament. Also many prospective owners may prefer to obtain a dog from an expert of the specific breed they are interested in.

Closer to Home Animal Advocates (CTHAA) is a group of caring individuals who work to find forever homes for Norwegian Elkhounds, Siberian Huskies, and sometimes other breeds as our hearts lead us. We are dedicated to placing dogs that have been abandoned, neglected, or whose present homes cannot keep them any longer. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, including rabies, heartworm tested, and on heartworm preventative medication. CTHAA strives to find the best match between the dog and the new forever home. Our goal is to place each dog into a permanent home where it will become a loved and cared for member of the household. All of our dogs are housed in foster homes.

FMAR is a non-profit 501(c)3 rescue for dogs and cats that started in April 2003 with the help and support of hundreds of wonderful people. We grew by leaps and bounds, so we bought a 6 1/2 acre farm and renovated the smaller of the 2 barns with 9 dog kennels and 5 unique cat kennels. Our renovation has allowed us to house a larger number of pets. Our mission is to protect animals and residents by promoting a healthy and safe enviornment for all. FMAR felt we needed to start in our own community helping our Animal Control facility find homes for the strays they pick up or are brought to them. When we have extra space we have done our best to help out neighboring communities too. We are amazed and saddened every day by the abundance of homeless pets and hope to raise enough money to renovate our larger barn very soon. Thank you to everyone who supported and encouraged us to continue when things got tough. Keep watching the best is yet to come!!
