We are a licensed, not for profit corporation. We offer a place to shelter large and small domestic animals that have been removed from abusive or neglectful situations, or that are otherwise unwanted and at risk of being euthanized. Over the years, people in these communities have gotten to know me through my work with abused, ill, injured, and unwanted animals. Sometimes this work has meant that we have assisted Law Enforcement personnel; sometimes it means that we provide nursing services for sick or injured animals. To insure a perpetual haven for these animals, I recruited the help of various professionals and volunteers. In 1997 Wanekia Wanagi Shelter, Inc. was formed. The Shelter also provides rehabilitation and therapy including all natural supplements and techniques, in addition to standard veterinarian services and Farrier care, for whatever length of time is necessary. We heal physical and emotional trauma, so that each animal can trust people again and socialize normally with other animals. Any animal that cannot be placed in a permanent adoptive home may live out their remaining years in retirement at the shelter. We are on 24-hour call from our Manitowoc County facility and at present we serve nine Southeastern Wisconsin Counties. We are NOT funded by Local, State. Or Federal Government. We depend solely on private contribution, and that is why we are asking for your help. Your Tax-deductible contribution will help us to continue our work in prevention the unnecessary euthanization of these animals without options.

Hundenruhe Haven Senior Dog Sanctuary is primarily a hospice and permanent sanctuary for the animals that find a home here. However, we do occasionally rehabilitate pets and find them new forever homes. We accept dogs from other rescues that are 12+ years old (sometimes a little younger) and they live with us in our home (not in kennels), safe and loved, until they pass away. At this time, we do not accept dogs from private parties.

ARF's GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE actually started in 1999, when founder, Terri, and her husband Perry came upon a very sick German Shepherd puppy being sold outside the Weyauwega Exotic Animal Fair for $20. Terri knew she could use the Wisconsin Dog Rescue listserv to contact a shepherd rescue, so she paid* for the sleepy little fellow and promised her husband the pup absolutely wouldn't be staying forever. (Terri had owned two GSDs in the past and knew how attached she became to the breed). Mit Liebe German Shepherd Rescue asked the couple to foster the pup for just two months, until they had room to take him in. Pistol (jokingly named because the worms, anemia, and the maggot living between the skin layers of his neck made him the most lethargic puppy ever) spent the rest of the summer sleeping at Perry's feet, or going for short walks at the dog park as he became healthier. Three weeks later, Terri was calling Mit Liebe back to say they HAD to adopt Pistol; he'd kicked in that Shepherd Charm and won the couple over.
After Terri became listowner for Wisconsin Dog Rescue, she decided volunteering for shelters and other rescues wasn't enough; she wanted to save the other "Pistols" out there, too. She filed the paperwork to become incorporated, followed closely by the 501c3 paperwork, and Arf's German Shepherd Rescue, Inc. was founded in March 2002.
