The Kankakee County Humane Society celebrates 42 years of service to the community as the area's only NO KILL facility. The Humane Society began in 1963 with a few dedicated volunteers and no place to house abandoned, lost, and sometimes abused animals. Today, the Society has an adoption facility located near St. Anne, Illinois. Three employees provide loving care for a variety of puppies, kittens, dogs and cats. The KCHS is a non-profit organization and receives NO TAX MONEY.

Over 20,000 animals are euthanized in Chicago each year. In 2005, a few dedicated Chicago animal rescue veterans decided to form a new dog rescue in an attempt to help reduce that number. New Leash on Life (NLOL) had been successfully saving and placing animals in Los Angeles since 1997, and was eager to expand their efforts beyond the West Coast. Sharing a common goal, the two groups joined forces to found New Leash on Life Chicago.
NLOL Chicago is an entirely volunteer run, nonprofit organization committed to finding loving homes for shelter dogs who might otherwise be euthanized. Through our adoption, foster, training and education programs, NLOL Chicago addresses the nationwide issue of pet overpopulation and the importance of spay/neuter. We also tackle local concerns, such as the threat of breed-specific legislation (BSL). The mission of NLOL Chicago is to provide consistent advocacy for those forgotten animals - to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

"Pets Without Parents of Mason & Logan Counties" is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization located in Central Illinois. We are a foster based organization that takes in strays, abandoned, lost and abused cats, kittens, dogs and puppies and help to find them new homes. Our funding is strictly from donations and fund-raising. The pets in our care receive veterinary services, socialization, basic obedience training, and LOTS OF LOVE! It is our belief that these pets are a member of our family (if only for a short time) and so they will only be adopted to "parents" that will treat them as family members, too. Please join us and help make life better for unfortunate pets without parents!

All our animals are fully vetted and socialized with children, cats, and dogs (when able) prior to adoption. An application must be done for every animal, which may be done on our main website. For ALL dog applicants, we must do a house check and criminal background check done prior to approval. We at Reach Out Rescue, NFP believe every animal deserves a second chance at a happy life.

We are an all volunteer, not for profit, no kill, humane organization established to provide shelter, care and an adoption program for abandoned and relinquished purebred Shih Tzu. We also accept orphaned small/toy breed dogs with injuries and medical ailments that are costly to treat and who would otherwise be scheduled to die providing the extraordinary medical care they need for a second chance at life and a loving home. All dogs are kept in a licensed shelter with a cageless, home-like environment and access to over two fenced-in acres where the dogs can run free. Our Shih Tzu are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, current on annual innoculations and monthly heartworm preventative and have an AVID Friendchip identification implant. Complete veterinarian checks are done on all incoming pets and any necessary special tests, medical and/or surgical procedures are provided. Each resident also receives regularly scheduled grooming care and parasite treatments. All dogs are temperament and personality tested so potential new owners can be matched with a dog that will best suit their expectations and lifestyle. Followup assistance is provided to help the Shih Tzu and new caregiver through the transition period. We provide breed specific and general educational materials for Shih Tzu owners, or potential owners, as well as consultation and training services. We will work with Shih Tzu owners considering giving up their pets, offering alternatives and education in an effort to help keep Shih Tzu in their current home.
