Florida Great Pyrenees ClubThe Florida Great Pyrenees Club (FGPC) was formed in April, 1997, as a regional club. From that original meeting, at which there were about a dozen people, we have grown to more than 200 members. We now have members from Miami to Tallahassee! Our primary goals are: (1) to maintain and further the integrity of the breed; (2) to hold regular club meetings, matches, public education, and fun activities for members; (3) to exchange ideas regarding care, behavior, training, health, and breeding for Pyrs; and (4) to be active in Great Pyrenees rescue. Our club became affiliated with the Great Pyrenees Club of America (GPCA) in December 1999. Sheltering Hands Inc.Sheltering Hands, Inc. is an organization for pet rescue and placements in the Marion & Levy County Florida area. Many of the cats currently in our care are from rescue situations and are now in a volunteer foster network. We currently do not have a shelter building but house all of our cats in the foster network. Central Florida Pug RescueA little over three years ago, a pug owner who was moving asked Becky if she would take in her little lady Peewee, care for her and possibly find a new home. A few months went by and Becky found Peewee (now known as Mimi) a new home. Little did we know at the time that she would become our very first rescue and that we would eventually become an incorporated pug rescue. We realized there was a void in the central Florida area concerning pug rescue, care and adoption of pugs. Somehow the word spread that we were here and willing to help those in need. During the past year and half, operating unofficially, we received many calls and emails from other rescues in Florida and even some neighboring states asking if we would help them. We were very happy to help out in any way we could. It is the purpose of the A.R.F. shack to rescue dogs in need of loving homes. In addition it is our goal to promote a supportive and strong alliance with other animal rights and rescue groups.
