Pet RefugePet Refuge is a not-for-profit "no-kill" animal shelter run by volunteers for the placement of unwanted and abandoned pets into responsible permanent homes. There is a waiting list to intake all animals that come into our shelter. The cat waiting list runs an average of 2-4 months long and the dog waiting list runs an average of 1-3 months long. We recommend that while you have your cat or dog on our waiting list, you also try other options in trying to place them such as run an ad in the newspaper (please do not advertise for free). Also, check with family, friends, co-workers ect., to see if they can help you out. Screen potential interested parties for your pet and ask for references including a Vet reference. Pet Refuge will try to help as many cats and dogs as possible; however, pet overpopulation is a problem in our community. We do screening on prospective homes in order to protect the animals and be sure they are going to a good home for life. We accept donations, and will not under any circumstances euthanize animals who have taken to long to be adopted. We receive discounted spay/neuter rates from various veterinarians to assist the new pet owners. Golden Retriever Rescue RangersWe rescue puppies and adults from shelters and from the streets. When animals are placed in their new home they will be examined by a licensed veterinarian approved by that shelter. When dogs are placed they will be heartworm negative, treated for common internal parasites (worms), neutered or spayed, bathed and/or flea-dipped if necessary, vaccinated: DHLPP; (Bordetella if necessary, from a shelter) Rabies vaccine/tag if over 6 months of age, ready to start on heartworm preventative and flea prevention. Maqwas Paw Print Husky RescueMaqwa's Paw Print Husky Rescue was founded on behalf of Maqwa. Maqwa is a Sioux word that means bear and bears are known for being able to find hidden roots for medicinal use. Maqwa was wonderful at this. Maqwa was a full blooded Siberian Husky that came to me as a rescue in need of a home. He was extremely intelligent and a great team motivator as he ran in the lead of a team of sled dogs. When the team was tired and wanted to stop HE was the one who could motivate them to keep going a little further. In June 2004 Maqwa suddenly and unexplainably walked across the rainbow bridge. We cried for 3 days and did nothing else. But because of his leadership ability we decided that a shelter or rescued dog was NOT one that we would ever overlook again when we were looking for a team member or as a pet and thus we began taking in Huskies from the shelters to save them from walking the rainbow bridge and instead help them to find forever families.
