We are an all volunteer, not for profit, no kill, humane organization established to provide shelter, care and an adoption program for abandoned and relinquished purebred Shih Tzu. We also accept orphaned small/toy breed dogs with injuries and medical ailments that are costly to treat and who would otherwise be scheduled to die providing the extraordinary medical care they need for a second chance at life and a loving home. All dogs are kept in a licensed shelter with a cageless, home-like environment and access to over two fenced-in acres where the dogs can run free. Our Shih Tzu are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, current on annual innoculations and monthly heartworm preventative and have an AVID Friendchip identification implant. Complete veterinarian checks are done on all incoming pets and any necessary special tests, medical and/or surgical procedures are provided. Each resident also receives regularly scheduled grooming care and parasite treatments. All dogs are temperament and personality tested so potential new owners can be matched with a dog that will best suit their expectations and lifestyle. Followup assistance is provided to help the Shih Tzu and new caregiver through the transition period. We provide breed specific and general educational materials for Shih Tzu owners, or potential owners, as well as consultation and training services. We will work with Shih Tzu owners considering giving up their pets, offering alternatives and education in an effort to help keep Shih Tzu in their current home.

Shih Tzus & Others is a small group of volunteers involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of furry kids in need. Would you believe so many end up in Shelters. Here we will show you some of the little ones that come to us, some in horrendous medical and physical condition, either through abuse, neglect or both. If you are familiar with the breed you will already know how sweet these little guys are and make the perfect companion. We rescue Shih Tzus from Animal Shelters, owner turn ins and sometimes just wandering the desert and streets. They are taken into my home or fostered by wonderful volunteers, are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, groomed and vetted. Made whole again by being placed into loving forever homes. We rely totally on donations, so the more donations we get the more we can rescue. Are you one of those special people who would like to offer a loving environment or donate to our cause

Shorewood Cocker Rescue has been in existence since 1985 and for most of that time consisted of Carole Kohler, the rescue's founder, placing homeless cockers into new homes. Then came the technology of the Internet, and the vast possibilities of communication. Through email and the website, Carole recruited volunteers who wanted to help the cocker breed, and since then, this dedicated group of volunteers has placed hundreds of dogs in Wisconsin and the surrounding states.
The rescue recently went through some significant changes including becoming a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a Board of Directors in 2001, and the retirement of the rescue's founder, Carole Kohler, in early 2003. However, throughout these changes we've stayed true to our mission.
"The mission of Shorewood Cocker Rescue is to assist homeless cockers find permanent homes with responsible, loving families. We spay or neuter all cockers prior to placement and check references on all adopters. We make every effort to carefully match each cocker with the right family to maximize the adoption's success."
