Preston County (WV) Animal ShelterThe Preston County Animal Shelter is a municipal animal control facility located in Kingwood, in northcentral West Virginia. We are the only animal control facility in a large, rural county. Space is limited and intake is high, so pets often do not remain very long. We are not a no-kill shelter, and our adoption rate is approximately 40%, with puppies and toy breed adult dogs having the highest adoption rate, adult dogs over 15 lbs., cats, and kittens having the lowest. Raleigh County Animal RescueThe Raleigh County Animal Rescue (RCAR) whose home base is located in Coal City, WV was active in rescuing our pet companions prior to becoming an organization in March 2003. The RCAR is a small "no-kill" organization and operates only through donations and volunteers. Currently we are dedicated to helping homeless, abandoned or abused animals. Our efforts are guided toward finding permanent homes for our animals.
