Humane Society of Morgan CountyWho We Are The Humane Society of Morgan County is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with only 12 dog kennels. We are the only shelter in the community and we take in stray and unwanted animals as well as animals impounded by the county dog warden. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on memberships, donations, fund raising, and grant monies. Donations may be made as memorials (pet or human), or can be earmarked for spay/neuter projects, general operations, or staff training. Public hours are Tuesday Thru Saturday 9 - 3 b Adopting a friend Our goal is to place pets in their forever homes. If you are interested in applying to adopt a pet, please contact us by email to obtain an adoption application and one can be emailed or faxed to you. Applications are reviewed and decisions are made within 24 hours. This gives the shelter staff time to check references and also gives the potential adopter time to consider the idea of having a new family member. Adoption Costs include first shots, de-worming, and sometimes spay/neuter and rabies vaccinations: Cats - $75 Dogs - $85 Come Visit Us! We are located 6 miles from the Maryland and Pennsylvania state lines and 12 miles from Virginia state line. We are approximately 2 hours from Washington, DC. Lewis Upshur Animal Control FacilityLewis Upshur Animal Control Facility is Located in Upshur County and is not a Humane Society but an animal welfare organization that serves the needs of two (2) counties. The dogs come into the facility and have a five-day grace period for us to find them a forever home until they are euthanized. If there is a collar with identification on it - we work very hard at finding its owner. Mountain State Boxer Rescue, Inc.MSBR is a West Virginia Corporation with 501(c)(3) tax deductible status that was formed in 2001 by a group of Boxer dog loving people. We spend a great deal of time, money and energy saving individual Boxer dogs from certain death in West Virginia shelters and dog pounds. MSBR volunteers take in abandoned and unwanted Boxers and foster them in their homes while helping the dog become adoptable. All rescue dogs are given a thorough medical exam and are vaccinated, heartworm tested and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. The dogs are crate and housetrained and taught basic obedience commands while in care. All dogs are tested for compatability with other dogs, cats and children. Without You Animal RescueOUR STORY : We are a NEW home and foster based shelter in Boone County West Virginia. We've been working to save the lives of a few homeless dogs and cats since July of 2004 ( check out our happy tails- we're proud of them!) As far as we know, we are the ONLY animal rescue of any sort in our county ! Boone County has an EPIDEMIC problem with homeless animals. Everywhere you look are homeless animals. It's very common here to find strays on the roadside left for coyotes to eat, the weather to kill, starvation, or maybe if they were lucky, some coal miner on his way to work to catch one for his kids ( I'm sure thats what the dumper hopes will happen), thats if they aren't so scared they run from him! Everyone I speak with knows of another place where animals are dumped. OR THEY have an animal they would like me to take. Unfortunately I have little space, and currently no foster homes. Raleigh County Animal RescueThe Raleigh County Animal Rescue (RCAR) whose home base is located in Coal City, WV was active in rescuing our pet companions prior to becoming an organization in March 2003. The RCAR is a small "no-kill" organization and operates only through donations and volunteers. Currently we are dedicated to helping homeless, abandoned or abused animals. Our efforts are guided toward finding permanent homes for our animals. Along with this, we stress the importance of neutering and spaying all pets in order to maintain their good health and benefit society.
