Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston, Inc. is an all-volunteer, donation-sponsored, non-profit organization dedicated to the overwhelming task of saving the lives of abused, abandoned and unwanted Miniature Schnauzers, who have lost their homes, due to no fault of their own. Many of these dogs come to us healthy, many sick or injured. They come from shelters, off the streets, from owners who for whatever reason, could no longer care for their little ones, and puppymills, where they have never known love or felt the security of a home. Our goal: that any Miniature Schnauzer coming through our organization will never again have to face being on the streets, in a shelter, or any other dangerous situation . but will live a safe, loving and secure life in their new "forever" home.

Greyhound Pets of America Inc. is a national non-profit organization dedicated to finding responsible homes for retired racing greyhounds. GPA/Houston operates a shelter within The Best Friends Pet Hotel. Since there is never a lack of dogs waiting for adoption, potential parents have the opportunity to meet several dogs. It is our goal to find the perfect match for both pet and owner. Except for several part-time kennel employees, we are an all volunteer organization. With over 500 active members in the Houston area, our aim is to inform the public on what excellent, loving pets these noble dogs make.

After we rescue a Sheltie, we immediately get him or her to one of our clinics, where the dog is assessed and treated for whatever ailments/parasites he or she may have, then vaccinated and neutered. After medical care, the dog is placed with one of our foster homes who rehabilitate, socialize, and assess the dog for temperament, helping him or her get ready for adoption. The dog is in our foster program for a minimum of two weeks -- up to two months if going through heartworm treatment or surgical recovery. Once the dog is made available for adoption on our adoptions page, then we begin trying to match him or her with the best home for both dog and family.

A Rescue dog is a dog that is in need and the breeder or owner cannot or will not help. American Fox Terrier Rescue takes Smooths and Wires from animal shelters and when there is room, from owners that can no longer keep them and the breeder is unwilling to take the dog back.
We help dogs who have lost their homes though divorce or death of their owners. Many come from wonderful homes, but though life changes, the dog needs a new home. American Fox Terrier Rescue groups are often best qualified to find that new home.
