Each week, we try to feature as many animals from the local kill shelters (city/county pounds) as possible. These animals are living on borrowed time, and are in desperate need of homes, before it is too late for them. They are usually given only 10 days to be adopted, before being destroyed. Any animal whose "name" begins with the word "pound" is one which is being housed at a kill shelter, not our facility, and is, therefore, in danger of being euthanized. Those animals featured on our website, with names, are housed at our facility, which is a NO KILL shelter.

The Las Lomas K9 Rescue & Adoption Foundation, a non-profit organization, officially opened on June 9, 2000. The main objectives of the Foundation are to rescue homeless and abandoned dogs from Wilson County and the surrounding areas by:
(1.) Picking them up off the streets, highways, and other deserted areas.
(2.) Taking them from local businesses where they have been dumped and are unwanted.
(3.) Rescuing them from homes where they are no longer wanted, or the owners can't keep them.
(4.) Removing them from the local veterinarian clinics, where they would be destroyed if not claimed.
(5.) Providing food and water, shelter, medical care, and routine health maintenance.
(6.) Spaying and neutering to reduce the stray population.
(7.) Matching them to responsible, loving homes.
The Foundation was created in answer to a desperate need for K9 care and education in the Wilson County and surrounding area. Dogs are constantly being dumped, and are either starving to death or being killed by cars. There are also many dogs that are reproducing constantly because owners are not spaying & neutering, and these offspring are ending up on the streets as well. Many of these dogs are in need of medical care as well as food and shelter. While working toward the objectives of the Foundation, the dogs must be cared for and kept safe. Many of them are sick or injured. Arranging for veterinary care and paying for such services is a large part of the Foundation activities.

STATISTICS
Our shelter was founded on June 9, 2000, Prior to the Foundation's beginning, we were operating under the "umbrella" of the Dilley Animal Adoption Foundation, Inc. (DAAFI) and since October of 1998, with our small number of volunteers, we have rescued over 700 animals. There have been no euthanasia's at our shelter we are strictly a no kill shelter. This would only happen if it was medically necessary due to the terminal condition or suffering of the animal. Many animals with high price tag disorders and lengthy recuperation time have been cared for and given a new life. All this has come at a high cost in personal funds as well as other privately donated money.
K9 FRIENDS FOR LIFE---The Foundation believes these dogs are truly an important part of us and we take their lives and well-being very seriously. We search for loving, safe, and caring homes where the dogs remain as family. When you adopt a dog from us, you become part of the family. We gladly take back any dog that we have adopted out that isn't working out in his or her new home, for any reason, for life. In fact, we require the animals be returned to us if they don't work out in their new home. This way, the adoptive parents don't have to worry about what to do and we know the dog is safe back with us.
The Las Lomas K9 Rescue & Adoption Foundation has received 501©(3) tax exempt status from the IRS and all donations are tax deductible. Our shelter is in great need of your support! We get no public funding and have to rely on individuals like you to help us out! Please be as generous as you can so we can continue to save the animals! Donations are used strictly for the medical care and treatment of the animals and without your help, due to the rising costs of vet care, we may be faced with closing down the shelter. We appreciate all the help we can get in order to give these animals a future they deserve! We accept cash or check and you can also donate online by credit card using PayPal.com and the email address Kim@dogsrus.org. Thank you for your support!
Please use the PAYPAL website, simply register for free and apply your donation to the following address: kim@dogsrus.org
NOTE: The shelter is located on private property and the gates are kept locked. Please understand that the phone numbers listed on the website are all home phone numbers so don't be surprised if you get an answering machine. Calls are usually returned in the evenings but sometimes we are not able to return calls until the next day. We appreciate your understanding.
Please visit our sister shelter, Pit Bull Pals of Texas, at http://pitbullpalstx.tripod.com/index.html If you wish to make a donation to support this very loyal yet misunderstood breed, please specify on your donation "Pit Bull Fund" Thank you and please donate today!
NOTE: Las Lomas K9 Rescue does NOT kill dogs! We are a RESCUE organization. The dogs listed as "Courtesy" are not in our care, they are in other shelters/temp homes. We are trying to help find people to foster or adopt the dogs so that the shelters don’t have to kill them. For more information on these postings, please use the contact email/phone number listed on the posting!
Each and every person can make a difference in the life of an animal. Adopt a K9 friend for life!

We are NOT A SHELTER with a single physical location. Instead, we are a NATIONAL network of volunteers working to help re-home Cairns in need.
We began as a small internet community of people trying to help one of their members through the heartache of losing a little Cairn named Col. Potter. In the weeks that followed that simple process of showing care and support, a national Cairn terrier rescue was born. It filled a void to serve a wonderful, randomly protected, and sometimes misunderstood breed. Cairns can have every kind of personality, from laid back to intensely lively; most fall somewhere in between.
Our rescue attracts caring foster homes who will provide guidance and love; sometimes for the first time in a rescued Cairns life. Our foster homes also provide an honest, realistic evaluation of each Cairns personality, so an approved applicant can expect to be matched with a Cairn whose traits and behaviors fit their lifestyle.
At present, Col. Potter has just under 200 foster homes all over the United States.
