Kingsport Police Department, Animal ControlThe Animal Control Officers are responsible for enforcement of the animal control ordinances of the city, picking up stray or abandoned animals, monitoring health and welfare of domestic animals, and assisting the Humane Society in animal cruelty investigations. This unit responded to 3,176 calls for service in 2004. This is a decrease of 149 calls from 2003. In addition, the Animal Control Officers picked up and disposed of 942 dead animals located on city right-of-ways. GRReat Dog RescueGRReat Dog Rescue (GDR) was set up as a 501(c)3 and chartered within the state of Tennessee as a nonprofit group in the spring of 2003, consisting of volunteers that love dogs (and other animals too) and want to help adoptable family dogs that end up homeless through no fault of their own. Some of the volunteers have been involved in rescue since the 1980's and really enjoy helping these wonderful dogs.
