The shelter is in DESPERATE need of volunteers! We need to find some volunteers willing to come every week to the shelter to walk dogs, and socialize with the cats. Even if you can only give 1 hour a week - that would be a big help! It helps the animals by giving them exercise and socialization skills. They are not as timid to potential adopters if they are used to people. Please help give some much needed attention to these poor animals. If you are interested in scheduling times to come down to the shelter, you can contact us here.

We are a chained dog and penned dog education, legislation, and rescue 501c3 nonprofit group. We are based in PA, but now have reps all over the country. We are working to change laws and educate society that it's not OK to chain or pen your dog. Dogs long to be part of the family, they are not lawn ornaments, they are living beings deserving of love and respect. Please consider adopting a chained dog today.

Nittany Beagle Rescue is a breed specific Rescue that works to find homes for unwanted Beagles. Beagles are a member of the scent hound group. They vary between 13 and 15 inches at the shoulder and usually weigh between 20 and 30 pounds. They possess a short coat and are easily groomed. Beagles often live to 15 years. Most of the Rescue Beagles that we place are between 1 and 4 years old. They have all been examined by a veterinarian, brought up to date on their shots, spayed or neutered and have had their temperament checked.

The PSPCA is a “low kill shelter. Each week all PSPCA satellite shelters transfer orphaned animals to our Philadelphia Headquarters where the demand is greater. We also work closely with no-kill shelters in our area and breed placement orginizations. This has resulted in a greatly reduced euthanasia rate, however animals still may need to be euthanized should the numbers surrendered outstrip our ability to adopt out and transfer to other shelters. Our transfer program allows each branch shelter the opportunity to offer more personal care for the many orphaned, sick and injured animals we receive. The PSPCA makes every effort to find homes for animals that are healthy and free of behavior problems. Many of the sick and injured animals we receive are provided with medical care (and/or behavioral treatment) and rehabilitated. Animals are euthanized if they are to sick to rehabilitate or to aggressive to adopt into a new home.
