Our volunteer organization rescues strays and abandoned pets in Erie, PA and surrounding areas. All of our pets receive necessary veterinary care, including vaccinations and are spayed or neutered at our expense at the appropriate age. Pets are kept in volunteer foster homes, not in a shelter, with all expenses paid by BYC until they are adopted into new homes. All potential families are screened and interviewed. We try to match the personality of the pet to the characteristics of the adoptive family. We also check to be sure that all pets in the home are spayed or neutered and have current shots.

Since 2000 I have involved myself compassionately in the Chow breed; founding a small breed-specific rescue, participating in AKC conformation events, and attending my first National Specialty show in Washington - 2006. In this short time frame I've met a lot of experienced individuals, asked a slew of questions, read dozens of articles, experienced many of the copious breed-specific health problems, absorbed quite a bit of information, and formed opinions on the breed's future based on the information received and what I know of the past and present dogs I've observed - rescue activities not omitted.

Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue, Inc. was started in 1997 with a single volunteer saving a single Lab, and has grown since then to over 50 volunteers and has saved hundreds of Labs in Pennsylvania and New Jersey - placing them in new forever homes with loving families from all walks of life.
Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue (Brookline) is a non-profit volunteer organization funded entirely by donations. At Brookline Lab Rescue we maintain a list of available Labs. This list is updated on a regular basis and is made up of dogs being given up by their owners (but still living with the owners) and dogs who are in foster care. We do our best to evaluate each dog and to give potential adopters detailed and accurate information regarding each dog.
Dogs being surrendered by their original families stay with them until an adoption can be arranged. If the dog is scheduled to be destroyed at a shelter, we arrange to place the dog in a foster home with one of our volunteers. If a foster home is not available, then we place the dog in a kennel near one of our volunteers until a foster home can be arranged. All shelter dogs are fostered for a minimum period by a volunteer before being placed for adoption. We evaluate both the dog and the prospective adopting home to ensure a good fit for everyone. All dogs are vet checked and their shots updated before they are adopted.
We operate mostly in Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey.
