The Humane Society of Cambria County, which has provided 31 years of service to companion animals and the public was founded in 1976 by a group of people led by Gail Suppes who were concerned about the welfare of stray and unwanted animals within the county. We are a private, not-for-profit, incorporated organization, holding a class NP kennel license and are inspected and audited quarterly by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. The HSCC operates as an open entry shelter, meaning that we accept stray as well as owner surrendered companion animals, including those that are sick, elderly, pregnant, injured or aggressive. We have received more than 123,700 animals since the shelter opened.

Founded in 1911, the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc. is dedicated to helping people and pets increase their quality of life. We operate two shelters, one on the East Shore and one on the West Shore of the Susquehanna River. Together, the two facilities service Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, and northwestern York Counties of Pennsylvania. Most of the animals received each year at our two locations are cats and dogs; however, the Humane Society accepts and cares for all types of animals, contacting third party agencies for assistance when necessary.

The Humane Society relies entirely on support from individuals, businesses, corporations, and foundations to provide funding for our people and pets programs. As a private, non-profit organization, we do not receive any direct government grants or funding from federal, state, or county government (except for services rendered). We also receive no money from other animal welfare groups, such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the American Humane Association (AHA), or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
