Stray from the Heart is a non-profit dog rescue organization whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and place homeless dogs with loving new families. We do so without the benefit of paid employees or a shelter to house these needy dogs up for adoption. We have a wonderful network of volunteers, such as dog walkers, trainers and foster parents to help support our efforts to rehabilitate and socialize each dog before a permanent home is found for them. We also provide follow-up support to the individuals and families who adopt a dog from us. Stray from the Heart volunteers are always available to provide advice on health and behavioral problems that may arise after an adoption. We are here to help you find the perfect canine companion and to help every dog find a perfect forever home. Even so, we have a "no questions asked" policy in cases where a dog must be returned to us. Our main concern is the health and safety of our Strays.

Strictly Strays is an organization established to help alleviate the massive stray cat problem on Staten Island. Primarily we deal with trap, neuter and return of any unfriendly animal to stop the problem of reproduction of feral kittens in an effort to end euthenasia of unfriendly cats. A cat deemed adoptable is then tested for FELV/FIV, vaccinated and spayed/neutered prior to adoption.

The Tompkins County SPCA, founded in 1904, acts both as the humane shelter for the care of the county's stray and abandoned domestic animals, and as the Animal Control Authority. The mission of the Tompkins County SPCA is:
* We are a shelter of hope.
* We care for companion animals in need and aim to find a loving home for every adoptable animal in Tompkins County.
* We foster, through education, community action, and example, an enriching, positive relationship between people and their pets.
* We are leading the way, through innovation and focus, in recognizing the benefits that companion animals bring, and by acting on our shared responsibility to them.
