Sanctuary House is a mission of the Episcopal Community of the Ascension. We are licensed for wild animal rescue/rehabilitation, but have some domestic animals who live here as well. We do not adopt out any animals. We work closely with other shelters and county animal control to help with appropriate placement for their animals.

Our objectives are:
To facilitate the rescue and adoption of companion animals into responsible and stable homes; and
To help the plight of feral cats and to reduce the number of homeless, relinquished, abandoned, and destroyed companion animals through spay-neuter campaigns and via public education.
Who we are:
We are a network of about four dozen animal-loving humans who are dedicated to rescuing cats and dogs, making sure they receive the care they need, and finding them caring homes. Many of us are very experienced in animal rescue and have been involved in other rescue groups. Several of us have experience in trapping and neutering feral cats; we support this method for population control. Some of us are new to rescue work. We also support efforts to educate the public about animal care and related issues. We are an approved 501(c)3 charitable organization.

CARA consists of a group of volunteers who foster homeless cats and dogs in their own homes while seeking their forever homes. Most CARA volunteers have at least 2 years of animal rescue experience, and many volunteer in other aspects of rescue also, e.g. fundraising, feral cat TNR, public awareness and education. We are always seeking folks of similar interests who would be interested in fostering and/or helping homeless animals in other ways. If this would interest you, please contact us using the email address below, and we will promptly respond to your inquiry.

Cumberland Valley Veterinary Clinic is a full service veterinary hospital. We provide for our fosters through our Florence Nightinggale Foster Account. The account provides medical testing for feline leukemia and FIV for cats. It provides for heartworm and lyme testing for our foster dogs. It also pays the costs of medicine the fosters may need. We do require an adoption fee for our fosters.
