We are advocates for humane education and the promotion of spay/neuter. The pets come to us from many sources: last-minute shelter rescues, strays, and from people who were no longer able to keep their pets for various reasons.

We rescue all of our dogs and cats from several different kill-shelters. All of these dogs and cats would have been euthanized if we had not rescued them. We spay and neuter, test for heartworms and treat if needed, deflea, deworm and update shots for all those that we adopt out!

We care for abandoned and homeless cats and dogs who are living on the city streets. Our site is about the desperate need for more people to go in to the city to help the strays. For a few hours a week you can help feed and rescue the many thousands of animals there who have noone to help them.

The Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Inc. (MAGDRL) was organized in 1979 to serve the seven State Mid-Atlantic regions. MAGDRL helps Danes by providing for the rescue and care of those who have been abandoned, neglected and/or abused by their previous owners. We spay/neuter and provide medical treatment necessary to return the Dane to good health. We also provide training and socialization to ensure their adaptability to new homes. We work to place rescued Danes with people who will provide secure, loving and healthy homes. To do this, MAGDRL screens the applicant and the home, checks references, and enters into a legally binding agreement with the adopting family. We require that the rescued Dane be kept inside the house: a member of the family.

Adopt a Homeless Animal is a group of volunteers dedicated to helping American Staffordshire Terriers, Pitbull Terriers and mixed breeds find a loving forever home. We provide veterinary care ensuring all of our rescue dogs are fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, heartworm negative and deemed in good health by our vet. Additionally, all of our adult dogs receive basic obedience training and when necessary more intensive training with a qualified animal behaviorist. We promote responsible pet ownership by educating the community. We have many wonderful animals who are waiting patiently for a forever home.

Our primary mission is working with feral (wild) cat colonies that have committed caretakers. All the cats are trapped, tested for FELV and FIV, vaccinated and altered. Kittens and strays are placed in carefully screened adoptive homes (they wait at our vet or in foster homes until they are placed). Feral adults are returned to the colony. Once the colony is "finished", the caretaker's role becomes supplying food, water and shelter and picking up any stray that might wander by in search of a handout. Many of the caretakers then become volunteers to help in our fund raising efforts so we can help other colonies! Our accomplishments with respect to the kittens and strays that are placed in adoptive homes is fairly obvious. But what about the adult ferals? Originally, I thought of the goal of the neuter and release process as being primarily to prevent kittens from being born to suffer. But I have come to realize we accomplish a lot for the adult ferals as well. Freed from constant pregnancy, the female ferals plump up and start to look happy and healthy the way nature intended. Males also start to look much healthier and their roaming is greatly reduced - reducing the opportunities for the spread of disease and the possibility of being hit by a car. It is not a purrfect answer - we all wish they could have homes - but in today's world that just isn't realistic.
