Animal Education and Rescue (NFP)

Animal Education and Rescue, NFP is an Illinois not for profit organization. We are a 501 (c) 3 organization. 3. The purpose of the foundation is to help countless numbers of animals and people. 1. We speak to schools, civic organizations, and clubs about responsible pet ownership. This will include the reasons for spaying and neutering, general care, and the do's and don'ts of owning a pet. We teach pet owners about how animals communicate with each other and with humans. We have designed special programs to introduce animals to children through animal body language sessions and pet education. 2. We provide pet therapy programs. Volunteers and their pets will visit nursing homes, assisted living facilities, schools for the disabled and hospitals. (Studies have proven that overall mental and physical health of humans is improved when they are exposed to animals.) 3. We are a resource for other animal related non-profit groups. During our public speaking and through our office we will provide a list of animal shelters, foster care foundations and other animal related organizations. 4. We assist people in placing abandoned, abused and surrendered pets of all kinds. Volunteer for Animal Education and Rescue!

Adopt-A-Pet, Inc.

We provide a safe refuge and a second chance for unclaimed animals from various municipal pounds and, space permitting, we accept other homeless, neglected or injured animals from their rescuers. Adopt-A-Pet is a "shelter without walls" - we do not own a shelter facility. All of our animals are boarded at cooperating animal hospitals or in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted by their new families. Animals remain with us for as long as it takes to find them a suitable permanent new home. Because we do not have a facility to warehouse unadoptable animals (based on age, health or temperament), Adopt-A-Pet is only able to take in adoptable pets. We strive to make sure that all of our animals will make suitable family pets.

Boxer Rebound, Inc.

The Boxer is thought by many to be the ideal family dog. Those who love the breed know them to be exuberant, loyal and loving companions. They are NOT, however, the ideal breed for everyone. The same qualities and characteristics that endear them to those who love them may make them unsuitable for some households. To those who are considering owning a Boxer we offer the following information - not to discourage potential loving owners, but to aid them in making a conscientious decision. Owning a Boxer is a joy - acquiring one demands a true commitment to the physical and emotional health of the dog. Boxer Rebound is located in Ringwood, IL in McHenry County near the WI border. Our operating area encompasses Northeast IL, including Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, Southeast WI, and Northwest IN. We do not place dogs outside of our operating area. We work with all legitimate boxer rescue organizations whose operating areas are adjacent to or overlap ours. PLEASE NOTE: Due to the large number of boxers awaiting adoption and the limited amount of time we have to conduct interviews, Boxer Rebound now charges a $25.00 visitation fee. To help ensure that our boxers are adopted to the appropriate homes, we spend a considerable amount of time with each applicant. We are simply unable to accommodate casual visitors. The $25.00 will be deducted from the Adoption Fee should an adoption take place. If an adoption does not occur, the fee is considered a donation to our program. Visits are by apppointment only.

Acting as an ambassador for our adoptees in their new homes so that we may continue to work with and support the animals, their owners, and the public.

Young At Heart Pet Rescue

Young At Heart is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming adult and senior dogs and cats. We are a small rescue that utilizes a small network of foster homes and a small cat adoption center to save our pets. The majority of our pets are between the ages of 3 and 8 years, however you will occasionally find one a little younger or a little older in our care. Mature dogs and cats give so much and expect so little. They know you've rescued them and they respond to a loving touch, soft voice and kind eyes just as we humans do. We rescue them and we find them new forever homes, and they are welcome to stay with us until we are able to find that special someone. Young At Heart Pet Rescue was founded in April of 2005. Though we are just in our youth as an organization, our hope is to find a home for every adoptable pet we rescue, to educate the public on the benefits of adopting a mature pet, and to decrease the euthanasia rate for older, adoptable pets in Illinois. Adopt a mature or older pet. You won't regret it!

American Eskimo Dog Rescue

The American Eskimo Dog Rescue is a local chapter of Heartbandits, a national volunteer organization that is dedicated to finding the “right home for Eskies who are lost, abandoned or abused. We care for dogs of every age group. When rescued, our Eskies are vet checked, given necessary vaccinations and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Our Eskies reside with their volunteer foster family and are evaluated for temperament, training and behavior issues. If we do not have an Eskie that meets your needs, we may know of Eskies in other rescues/shelters and will gladly share that information. Potential adopters are screened to ensure that their lifestyle and home are right for each individual dog. A home visit and follow-up are required to ensure that the placement is appropriate. An adoption contract and fee will be required.

Secondhand Shelties Ltd.

Secondhand Shelties, Ltd. is a not-for-profit Chicagoland area breed rescue for Shetland Sheepdogs ("Shelties"). Formed and incorporated in the State of Illinois in 1995, Secondhand Shelties is licensed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Secondhand Shelties helps find new homes for abandoned, orphaned, and unwanted shelties. We are not dog breeders nor are we members of any breed club. Although we receive referrals for both adoptions and owner give-ups from breeders and clubs, our rescue functions as a corporation and separate entity from any club or rescue. We do not exchange dogs with other rescues. Once a sheltie is in our program, the dog stays with us until the dog is adopted - regardless of the time it may take to find the "perfect home" for that particular dog. Our "Secondhand Shelties" come from many backgrounds. Approximately half of the shelties are given up by their owners. The other half come from animal control facilities, shelters or are found wandering the streets. Everyone involved with Secondhand Shelties volunteers their services, their homes, and their time because of their love for this breed. All foster homes are licensed to insure the best for each and every one of our dogs. Because all our shelties live in foster homes while awaiting adoption, they are able to be seen in a normal home environment. Everything medically necessary is done in order for our dogs to be in good, healthy adoptable condition prior to showing them to potential adopters, regardless of the cost. All dogs in the care of Secondhand Shelties are checked by a veterinarian upon entry into our rescue program. Vaccinations, neutering, dentals and any other needed medical procedures are done prior to adoption. Normally we have adult shelties of various ages available for adoption. On rare occasions we have dogs under 1 year of age. Because we are not breeders, we rarely have puppies. Please call for an adoption application if you'd like to open your heart and home to a wonderful, loving Secondhand Sheltie who needs you. If calling outside the 630, 708, 847 or 815 area code we will return your call collect. You can also request an application by e-mail, but be sure to include your name, home address, city/state and telephone number. Please have patience if you leave us a message or send an e-mail. All members of our rescue work full time jobs while also caring for their own pets as well as foster dogs. Because of this, we may take a day or two to return your call or e-mail.
