We abide by a no-kill policy, which allows for euthanasia only under professional veterinary assessment, recommendation and administration in cases of terminal illness which cause suffering, in cases of injury too severe to repair, or in cases of such severe aggression that it is a threat to other shelter residents and caregivers is present. The A.A.F. is dedicated to educating the public on such issues that impact on animal welfare, preservation and protection, developing humane attitudes and compassion in your people, providing a pet therapy program to nursing centers and providing a continuing care program for dogs and cats. “Rescuing Pugs and other Breeds in Need SIPRAW is an all volunteer, non-profit organization founded in the spring of 2004 by someone in love with pugs, literature, art, music, theatre, and writing. (Thus the Write in AnimalWrites.) Our main purpose is to rescue pugs from puppy mills and place them in loving, permanent homes. We also rescue, care for, and place any unwanted, mistreated, or abandoned pugs. All donations and all adoption fees go solely to the rescue, care, and placement of pugs in loving, permanent homes. SIPRAW’s mission is to rescue as many pugs as possible from puppy mills, care for said pugs, including shots, spaying/neutering, dentals, and treatment for any illnesses, and find excellent homes for these pugs, to educate the public about puppy mills and how to avoid inadvertently buying a puppy from a puppy mill, to reduce pet overpopulation by increasing awareness of the need to spay/neuter, and to increase public awareness of the need for humane treatment of all animals. Our ability to rescue pugs from puppy mills as well as to accept abandoned, unwanted, or mistreated pugs is only limited by finances and available foster homes. We rely entirely on volunteers, donations, and adoption fees. You can see more at www.sipraw.com We attend the auctions which are held each week from September to June and try to outbid the puppy millers who are buying dogs from each other. Because these auctions happen so frequently if we don't have dogs now, we will have them soon. We recommend that you contact us or fill out an application and be put on the wait list. We desperately need donations to use to buy these dogs out of the cages. By law ,dogs in mills--they call themselves "large commercial kennels" or "professional dog breeders" are kept in wire-bottomed cages 24/7. These cages are only 6 inches longer and wider than the dog. By law. They use the bathroom, eat, sleep, live their entire lives in these cages. Puppy mill dogs are usually wild and sadder than you can ever imagine. It is abuse. Horrible abuse. SIPRAW buys them and rehabs them (tames them, show them love) and gets them vet care before adopting them to you. --Donation Wish List: We desperately need a pickup truck for transporting dogs from the puppy mills. Either a pickup truck or an SUV or a van.

The mission of Homeward Bound Pet Shelter is to shelter and rehabilitate relinquished cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies until they can be permanently adopted into loving homes. Homeward Bound has operated as a no-kill, not-for profit organization since April 2002.
On July 1, 2005, Homeward Bound became a division of Macon Resources, Inc. Macon Resources, Inc. is a not for profit agency that provides comprehensive services and supports which promote growth, independence, and self-worth for children and adults with disabilities and their families. This unique social partnership is benefiting both organizations as well as the Decatur community.
During fiscal year 2006, we placed 258 dogs and 128 cats. That's a total of 386 animals whose lives we have touched in a very positive way! We rescued pets not only from the Decatur and Macon County area but from several humane societies and animal control facilities throughout central and southern Illinois.
Our vision to establish community outreach programs is becoming a reality. During the past year, we have held obedience training classes, gave presentations to schools and other organizations, and started a foster program.

The cats and dogs come to us from many sources. Impoundment facilities and the public bring us dogs and cats from all ages who have been abandoned, abused, injured, neglected, and orphaned. A dedicated volunteer base and the retained services of several veterinarians has allowed us to save the lives of and place over 1,200 homeless animals each year into new homes. Every animal that is brought to our shelter receives whatever type of veterinary care that is needed, including surgery and hospitalization for trauma cases, long-term care and medication for viral and bacterial infections, and treatment of parasite infestations such as heartworm. Orphaned kittens and puppies as well as the infirmed receive loving care in our Temporary Care Homes until they are ready for adoption.

"Pets Without Parents of Mason & Logan Counties" is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization located in Central Illinois. We are a foster based organization that takes in strays, abandoned, lost and abused cats, kittens, dogs and puppies and help to find them new homes. Our funding is strictly from donations and fund-raising. The pets in our care receive veterinary services, socialization, basic obedience training, and LOTS OF LOVE! It is our belief that these pets are a member of our family (if only for a short time) and so they will only be adopted to "parents" that will treat them as family members, too. Please join us and help make life better for unfortunate pets without parents!

P.F.S. (which stands for Pets for Seniors) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose main purpose is to match older, compatible shelter cats and dogs with qualifying senior citizens. In addition to finding a pet for a senior citizen, we pay most of the adoption fee and offer other services in this area. For a list of those services visit our website at www.petsforseniors.org . In additon to this, we occasionally rescue and foster exceptional animals from animal control facilities when their time is up. These animals are available for adoption to any qualfying person over the age of 21. There is an adoption fee to help cover our vet expenses with a reduced fee to seniors.
Although we now have a shelter facility for our fosters, we require appointments. Please call us to arrange to meet the available animals.

Almost Home Dachshund Rescue Society is a nationwide organization of volunteers that seeks to rescue abandoned, abused, neglected, and unwanted dachshunds and dachshund mixes, provide necessary veterinary and behavioral care for them, and place them in homes where they will be a perfect fit.
As an organization, we operate a little differently from many other national rescue groups: Almost Home rescuers work together, but individual rescuers retain their independent status. As a group, we share access to a website, transport and foster help, information about dogs needing help, and general support. As independent rescuers, we maintain control over how we rescue and place our foster dogs. Members are responsible for the medical care the dogs require, and they determine their own adoption fees.
One of our primary goals as a group is raising money to help our own members, as well as other rescue groups and shelters, care for dogs who require medical treatments that cannot be covered by adoption fees. By working together on fundraising, we are able to offer financial assistance grants to many needy dogs, rather than relying primarily on set adoption fees as the source of income.
