Central Illinois Sheltie RescueCentral Illinois Sheltie Rescue is a non profit, State Licensed, ALL Volunteer organization that helps homeless or abandoned Shetland Sheepdogs.........also known as "Shelties". We take in the Shelties that need us, and adopt them out to wonderful new homes. Founded in 1998 by our current director, Natalie Whalen, Central Illinois Sheltie Rescue takes in and places approximately 150-200 Shelties each year! We will take in any Sheltie that needs us. We do not have a shelter facility. All dogs are housed and cared for in our network of foster homes. This allows us to get to know the dogs personality along with any special needs it may have. All of our dogs get the best of medical care. Each dog is treated for any medical problems.....then spayed or neutered, brought current on all shots, wormed, treated for fleas and ticks, heartworm tested and treated if positive for HW, started on preventative medication, started on flea prevention medicine, and groomed. ARFhouse ChicagoARFhouse Chicago (Animal Refuge Foundation) is a no-kill animal shelter located in Chicago. Founded in 2006, a group of individuals with experience in the animal rescue industry and the desire to help Chicago lower its euthanasia rate and homeless pet population formed ARFhouse Chicago. We are a 100% volunteer run organization. ARFhouse Chicago will place dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and rabbits into permanent homes. We currently house our animals in foster homes and boarding facilities and are working to secure a facility in 2007 to expand our operations. ARFhouse Chicago is affiliated with ARFhouse in Sherman Texas, the third largest no-kill sanctuary in the United States. ARFhouse is located in a rural area of North Texas and recognizing the potential for a beneficial partnership with a large urban shelter, has offered invaluable support to ARFhouse Chicago. All of the animals at ARFhouse Chicago are current on vaccinations, heartworm checked, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and receive routine medical check ups. New Leash On Life ChicagoOver 20,000 animals are euthanized in Chicago each year. In 2005, a few dedicated Chicago animal rescue veterans decided to form a new dog rescue in an attempt to help reduce that number. New Leash on Life (NLOL) had been successfully saving and placing animals in Los Angeles since 1997, and was eager to expand their efforts beyond the West Coast. Sharing a common goal, the two groups joined forces to found New Leash on Life Chicago. NLOL Chicago is an entirely volunteer run, nonprofit organization committed to finding loving homes for shelter dogs who might otherwise be euthanized. Through our adoption, foster, training and education programs, NLOL Chicago addresses the nationwide issue of pet overpopulation and the importance of spay/neuter. We also tackle local concerns, such as the threat of breed-specific legislation (BSL). Homeward Bound Pet ShelterThe mission of Homeward Bound Pet Shelter is to shelter and rehabilitate relinquished cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies until they can be permanently adopted into loving homes. Homeward Bound has operated as a no-kill, not-for profit organization since April 2002. On July 1, 2005, Homeward Bound became a division of Macon Resources, Inc. Macon Resources, Inc. is a not for profit agency that provides comprehensive services and supports which promote growth, independence, and self-worth for children and adults with disabilities and their families. This unique social partnership is benefiting both organizations as well as the Decatur community. During fiscal year 2006, we placed 258 dogs and 128 cats. That's a total of 386 animals whose lives we have touched in a very positive way! We rescued pets not only from the Decatur and Macon County area but from several humane societies and animal control facilities throughout central and southern Illinois. Our vision to establish community outreach programs is becoming a reality.
