Miami-Dade Animal Services is a standalone department within Miami-Dade County Government. We are primarily charged with the responsibility of enforcing Chapter 5 of the Code of Metropolitan Dade County. Unlike private shelters that have limitations on the number of pets they accept, we accept all animals at the Animal Services shelter. No pets are turned away, and each year, the shelter impounds more than 32,000 dogs and cats. Due to the tremendous pet overpopulation problem in Miami-Dade county, our shelter is constantly overcrowded -- WE NEED ADOPTERS! Most of the rescue groups that you find in Miami, Florida, rescue pets from our shelter, so the pets that they are adopting out have come through us, first. Our goal is to find lifelong homes for as many animals as possible and to provide proper care for them while they’re at our shelter. We also educate the public about pet overpopulation and responsible pet ownership, and we offer low-cost vaccinations and free spay/neuter services for the pets of Miami-Dade county residents. We need you to work with us to find loving forever families for the pets at our shelter!! Please don't give up on them!

bandoned Pet Rescue (APR) founded in 1996, is a 501 ( c ) (3) IRS tax-exempt, qualified charitable organization that rescues and shelters abandoned, abused, and neglected pets, rehabilitates them and finds them new homes. APR is one of the largest no kill animal shelters in South Florida, where volunteers perform the duties of running the shelter operations on a day to day basis. APR is devoted to the welfare of all animals. Most of the over 500 animals are Cats, Dogs, Bunnies, Birds, Parrots, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Mice, Rats, Iguanas, and other animals in need of help. While pet over population is declining throughout the country, the number of animals brought to South Florida shelters is increasing. APR's primary goal is to assemble a no-kill community. This is quite a daunting task, nonetheless, APR is making a valuable contribution to the animal community and will continue to do so as long as support is provided from generous donors.

We are a private, Non-profit Rescue funded only by adoption donations and our own pocketbooks. We are dedicated to rehabbing and rehoming the "friends forgotten," neglected, abused, or rejected by their previous owners. A major goal is to place each vetted, altered and healthy pet in that ONE forever home where they may live out their lives as valued family members and beloved companions. We are called upon by other shelters and Humane Societies to take dogs that require extra surgery and/or medical care. We also work to place former puppymill dogs so they may know and enjoy the love and care of a family.
