A non-profit organization dedicated to combating the neglect, abuse, and rejection of dachshunds
Est. May 2003 Florida Dachshund Rescue, Inc. (FLDR) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization incorporated in 2003, comprised of experienced rescue people in Florida, Alabama and the southeast United States who share the same philosophies, goals and love of the dachshund breed.
We are an all volunteer group that views its mission as rescue, rehabilitation and placement of rescued dachshunds into loving and permanent homes. As we are a not-for-profit organization, we rely on the adoption donations received when a rescued dachshund is placed in a permanent home and on the generosity of the private and public sector for support.

A Pet For Life
A Pet for Life rescue hopes to educate our children so that they will grow up with a love and respect for all creatures who depend on their human caretakers. The founder of A Pet for Life is not new to rescue having founded Greyhound Lifeline in 1987 to rehabilitate and place retired greyhounds. We rescue 'small' dogs and puppies of any breed.

The name "Second Chance Farm" about says it all. We care for all kinds of animals who come to us under many different circumstances. We limit our intake of animals to those critters who truly have no one else to look after them. So please do not contact us in hopes that we can take in your own animals or those that have come under your care. We have VERY limited space and unfortunately, there are enough "owner-less" critters out there to keep us quite busy! Most of the animals that come our way are healthy and happy from the start ... but some require medical and/or surgical attention before they are healthy enough to go up for adoption. Our goal is to give these deserving critters a SECOND CHANCE at finding a loving and permanent home. Animals that are not considered "adoptable" (due to medical conditions) stay at Second Chance Farm indefinitely - where they receive necessary medical care for the rest of their life. All of our animals up for adoption are healthy and happy, on flea & heartworm prevention, spayed or neutered and are up to date on vaccinations. We work closely with Gainesville Pet Rescue so many of our animals stay with us ... but their adoption is officially handled through Gainesville Pet Rescue.

Maddie's Pet Rescue Project of Alachua County is a community collaboration funded to end the killing of adoptable shelter dogs and cats in the city of Gainesville and the surrounding Alachua County by 2007.
The collaboration’s lead agency is the no-kill Alachua County Humane Society. Other partners include Alachua County Animal Services, Gainesville Pet Rescue, Haile's Angels Pet Rescue, Helping Hands Pet Rescue and Puppy Hill Farm.
Since 2000, Gainesville's rescue and animal control facilities impounded 11,461 dogs and cats; 8,062 were killed. Of those, approximately 3,664 were healthy and adoptable.
In the first year of Maddie's Pet Rescue Project, the partners significantly increased the number of adoptions while dramatically decreasing the number of dogs and cats euthanized at Alachua County Animal Services. Our goal for the first quarter was to limit the animals euthanized to 705. Through the hard work and dedication of our partners and volunteers and the caring nature of the community, we exceeded our goal and only 334 animals were euthanized.
Our goal this year is to find permanent, loving homes for approximately 300 animals every month and to drastically decrease the number of healthy and adoptable animals euthanized.
Help us reach our goal this year.

The Levy County Animal Services is an Animal Shelter that takes in unwanted or stray pets. We are by no means a boarding facility for the general public. Animals that are housed here are pets that someone has left to roam as a strays. The policy for this facility is to hold all animals for six working days. After which time the animal may be adopted or destroyed humanely
