We are a small, independent rescue group in the Vero Beach, Florida, area. We typically only have one or two rescues in our program at one time. This allows us to focus on the individual needs of the rescue dog so that they can find their perfect forever family. We can also help you to "rehome" your border collie, if needed. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Animal Care and Control is part of Palm Beach County Government. Our shelter was started in 1969. We are located at 7100 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, Florida (five miles west of I-95).
In 1974, the shelter became a division of the Public Safety Department. Programs and services were expanded to keep pace with the growing human and animal population. In 1980, the division became fully accredited by the Humane Society of the United States. Animal Care and Control was the first agency in the southeast and the second in the entire nation to achieve this distinction.

Doggone Dogs of S. Florida is a no kill, non profit 501c3 dog rescue. Originally a Sheltie rescue, we quickly expanded to include all dogs, no matter their breed, size or even infirmity. Large, small, young, old, deaf, blind, if they were unwanted or unloved, they were welcome. It was only a matter of time before we expanded even more to include cats and kittens. As a non profit organization, our animals rely heavily on the wonderful people who donate their time to help us run our rescue. We are always in need of more foster homes, supplies and volunteers to staff our adoption site. If you are interested in volunteering your time to help our animals, please contact us. We would be happy to hear from you and have you on our team! Your time counts toward community service hours for school graduation requirements.

This rescue is run by volunteers and could not exist without the dedicated people providing foster homes for the dogs and puppies, the superb veterinarian care provided by Dr. Amy Huff, Animal Clinic of Leesburg, the behaviorial and psychological services of Dr. Terry Marie Curtis, University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Chuang family for providing housing for our overflow dogs at Red Woof Inn. Dogs accepted into this rescue live in a family environment as a pack member whenever possible while awaiting adoption to their forever home. Therefore, we need more foster homes for our dogs and puppies. Please volunteer today and help a German Shepherd Dog.
