Del Norte Dogs
We are a small rescue group , that works directly with the local dog pound. For more info call 1 (707) 458 3564. In Del Norte County , located in the far northwest corner of California. Our philosophy is to find responsible owners for the many good dogs who may soon be euthanized at the Del Norte County Animal Shelter. We seek permanent homes and also work with other northern and central California rescues by holding dogs while transportation is being arranged. We can help arrange transport., in special cases.

Shannon visits care homes frequently with “therapy animals to brighten the day of handicapped and elderly people.
Shannon talks at assemblies at many local schools, discussing animal care, the importance of spay and neuter, and how to approach strange dogs.
During the school year, we provide tours of our rescue to hundreds of local school children.
Miranda’s Rescue provides many opportunities for community members to volunteers. There are now over 40 active volunteers who do everything from cleaning cat boxes and walking dogs to answering phones and writing newsletter articles. The rescue could not function without all these wonderful volunteers

Mixed Mutts came about when, as volunteers for a breed-specific rescue, we saw the need for a mixed-breed rescue. Rescues tend to be breed specific or rescue only from the shelter. We found a need for the placement of mixed breeds due to all the calls from people needing to place pet dogs they could no longer keep, or dogs they had found but could not keep when the owners could not be located, and didn't want to take them to the county shelter. We also rescue dogs from shelters, as the shelters will often call if they have a dog whose time has run out and is "just too good to put down". On many occasions, we've gone for one dog we were called to pick up and ended up bringing home two (the shelters are great at letting us take as many as we want, which is hard because we want to take them all). The dogs are in foster homes and treated as part of the family until adopted by their forever home.

I have been rescuing Bouvier purebreds, Bouvier crosses, and "Bouvier Pretenders" aka "Bouvier Faux" (dogs who look like bouviers but aren't) since 1987. I also occasionally rescue a dog who turns out to be a Giant Schnauzer or some other breed that gets confused with Bouvier.
