Mason County Animal Welfare League, Inc.The Mason County Animal Welfare League is a small shelter in a very rural part of West Virginia. We have many wonderful dogs and cats available for adoption. Mason County Animal ShelterWe are a high intake county shelter and need rescue help! We are NOT a no-kill shelter. Our county commission limits us to 50 dogs and 36 cats max! Without LOTS of rescue help and adoptions, it will be IMPOSSIBLE for us to maintain the population at this level without euthanizing. Residents, if you need to surrender an animal, we STRONGLY SUGGEST that you reach out to rescues and no-kill shelters via Petfinder for assistance in rehoming your pet. Rescues typically keep animals in foster homes rather than a shelter environment. Tug Valley Veterinary ClinicTug Valley Veterinary Clinic has been located in Williamson, WV, for 19 years. There is no animal shelter and no dog pound in Mingo County, of which Williamson is the county seat. We have a tremendous problem with stray dogs and cats. As a consequence we take in between 40 and 100 strays every year. We acquire our adoptees in various ways. Most commonly, someone leaves a cardboard box full of kittens or puppies in front of our door. Others are brought in by good Samaritans who bring in injured pets, usually found in or alongside a road. We have taken in many pets that had treatable diseases or injuries, but the owner was unable or unwilling to pay for treatment. I have 15 dogs who live with me, and I simply have reached my limit. Cozy's RefugeSMALL BREED DOG AND PUPPY RESCUE I am a local resident that has always wandered why are there so many dogs beside the road, so i've decided to try to do something about it, instead of wondering why someone doesn't. I have been working hard for about two years and have found many homeless dogs,a forever home. I have a great love for animals and find helping them is rewarding, yet hard and expensive. I do this by myself ,at my own expense, so if you would like to help in anyway please call. S.O.S. Animal ShelterS.O.S. (Save Our Strays) is a non-profit organization consisting of officers, board members and a lot of nice residents of Mingo County that really WANT to see a shelter built for our stray animals. We are trying to stop the abuse that goes on every day and help educate people about the proper care and responsiblilty of being a pet owner. Humane Society of Raleigh County Inc.The Humane Society of Raleigh County, Inc. is a non-profit organization which has been serving people and pets since 1979. Its mission is to prevent animal abuse and neglect. Located in Beckley, the county seat of Raleigh County, WV, the animal shelter staff provide adoption opportunities, animal control, public education, and 24-hour on-call emergency coverage for all county residents. By agreement with the Raleigh County Commission and the City of Beckley, the Humane Society enforces state and local laws pertaining to animals but is not a government agency. The animal shelter is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday excluding holidays from 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. For more information about the animal shelter, call 304-253-8921 or fax 304-255-9134. There is a written contract which the adopting owner must sign which requires that any animal which has not already been altered shall be spayed or neutered by a deadline set by the shelter. In cooperation with the Humane Society of Raleigh County, several local veterinarians discount the cost of surgery by as much as 40%, but it is the responsibility of the new owner to schedule and pay for the surgery and mandatory rabies vaccination, which is also discounted. Raleigh County Animal RescueThe Raleigh County Animal Rescue (RCAR) whose home base is located in Coal City, WV was active in rescuing our pet companions prior to becoming an organization in March 2003. The RCAR is a small "no-kill" organization and operates only through donations and volunteers. Currently we are dedicated to helping homeless, abandoned or abused animals. Our efforts are guided toward finding permanent homes for our animals. Along with this, we stress the importance of neutering and spaying all pets in order to maintain their good health and benefit society.
