We were founded in the year 2000 and in the year 2005 we partnered with Best Friends Animal Society in order to help save animals left behind in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The two organizations worked together on St. Francis grounds for 9 months after the hurricane and saved 4000 lives. Many of our supportrs have moved away, some temporairly and some perminently. We continue to work with the Gulf Region to help them regain their independance again

St. Francis Rescue, Inc. is a Georgia State Licensed Shelter, established in 2001 to assist in rehabilitating and rehoming the large number of abandoned collies in Georgia. We are a small network of volunteers. We depend on adoption fees and donations to continue to operate. When space permits, we also take in collies from Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. We are located on the north side of Atlanta, Georgia. The majority of our rescue collies require homes with fenced yards for exercise. All dogs listed on this site are indoor dogs. All are altered prior to adoption, have their teeth cleaned, if necessary, are heartworm and fecal negative, are vaccinated, treated for fleas and groomed. All our rescues are being fostered inside private homes.

In 1983, in St. Francois County, Missouri, volunteers set up a small organization to rescue injured wild animals and transport them to appropriate wildlife rescue groups. Volunteers also responded to calls on abandoned, ill, and injured companion animals in need of veterinary care and homes. Some twenty years after these modest beginnings, the organization expanded into St. Louis to increase its adoption efforts. As we are new to this area, our name is not as well known. It refers not only to the organization's original site, but also honors the first advocate of compassion to animals, St. Francis of Assisi.
