Mackenzies Animal SanctuaryMackenzie's Animal Sanctuary was founded by the Azzar family in August of 1999, after the passing of their beloved dog Mac. Macoupin County Adopt-A-PetAdopt-A-Pet, established in 1983, is a not-for-profit, no-kill animal shelter located in Benld, Illinois, registered with and inspected by the State of Illinois. No state or federal funding is received; Adopt-A-Pet is supported solely by memberships, fundraisers and donations. Its mission is to rescue abandoned and/or abused pets and place them in loving homes. Adopt-A-Pet also accepts pets from families who no longer want or are unable to care for their pet. Local authorities and police departments call Adopt-A-Pet in cases of animal abandonment, abuse, or auto accidents involving an injured animal. MADACC - Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal ControlThe purpose of MADACC is to provide: shelter, care and disposition of stray dogs and cats, the search and recovery of lost pets, county quarantine services of biter animals for rabies observation, REFERRAL services for wildlife problems, and to promote responsible pet ownership through client education and the licensing of dogs and cats. To accomplish these goals, MADACC utilizes a variety of resources through networking and coordination with metropolitan area humane societies. Adoption referral extends far beyond the immediate area of Milwaukee County allowing for permanent animal placements with breed rescue groups, exotic animal specialists, wildlife sanctuaries, and wildlife preservation refuges and zoos. Maddie's Pet Rescue Project of Alachua CountyMaddie's Pet Rescue Project of Alachua County is a community collaboration funded to end the killing of adoptable shelter dogs and cats in the city of Gainesville and the surrounding Alachua County by 2007. The collaboration’s lead agency is the no-kill Alachua County Humane Society. Other partners include Alachua County Animal Services, Gainesville Pet Rescue, Haile's Angels Pet Rescue, Helping Hands Pet Rescue and Puppy Hill Farm. Since 2000, Gainesville's rescue and animal control facilities impounded 11,461 dogs and cats; 8,062 were killed. Of those, approximately 3,664 were healthy and adoptable. In the first year of Maddie's Pet Rescue Project, the partners significantly increased the number of adoptions while dramatically decreasing the number of dogs and cats euthanized at Alachua County Animal Services. Our goal for the first quarter was to limit the animals euthanized to 705. Through the hard work and dedication of our partners and volunteers and the caring nature of the community, we exceeded our goal and only 334 animals were euthanized. Our goal this year is to find permanent, loving homes for approximately 300 animals every month and to drastically decrease the number of healthy and adoptable animals euthanized.
