Who We Are
The Humane Society of Morgan County is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with only 12 dog kennels. We are the only shelter in the community and we take in stray and unwanted animals as well as animals impounded by the county dog warden. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on memberships, donations, fund raising, and grant monies. Donations may be made as memorials (pet or human), or can be earmarked for spay/neuter projects, general operations, or staff training.
Public hours are Tuesday Thru Saturday 9 - 3 b
Adopting a friend
Our goal is to place pets in their forever homes. If you are interested in applying to adopt a pet, please contact us by email to obtain an adoption application and one can be emailed or faxed to you. Applications are reviewed and decisions are made within 24 hours. This gives the shelter staff time to check references and also gives the potential adopter time to consider the idea of having a new family member.
Adoption Costs include first shots, de-worming, and sometimes spay/neuter and rabies vaccinations:
Cats - $75
Dogs - $85

The Humane Society of Morgan County does not have a shelter, all of the animals we offer for adoption are fostered at our homes. We take great pride in knowing our fosterlings' personalities. Knowing the animal before placement helps us to place them in a home that fits the needs of both the person(s) adopting as well as the needs of the pet.

Our dream is to have our own shelter where pets, who need people, can be safe, warm and loved until their person comes to adopt them. A place where we can educate people on animal welfare and the urgent need for spaying and neutering. As we struggle to change attitudes in our county we also want to save as many "adoptable" pets as possible. We are doing this through foster homes as we continue to grow our "building fund" (through donations) to a point where we can get a shelter.

We strongly believe that education is the solution to the problem of this ongoing euthanasia. The board is developing a new humane education curriculum to be introduced in all interested Nacogdoches County schools. It is our conviction that the answer to unwanted animals lie in educating young people on the imortance of humane animal care, spay/neuter, and shelter adoption programs. We are working to ensure that every animal in Nacogdoches County has a home. What an achievement it will be to build a future for our community based on compassion. After all, kindness to animals helps create a better world for us all!
