While our rescue group does usually have a few dogs available for adoption, our main goal is to provide assistance to folks needing help in finding the right dog to adopt. The rescue world is virtually inaccessible to potential adopters who don't have access to a computer and/or are not computer savvy. Even for those who do find their way to Petfinder, dealing with rescues and various shelters can be very confusing and intimidating.

In 1998 a group of concerned citizens in Iowa County got together to solve the stray and abandoned animal problem. The group had no money just an idea and had one thing in in common, the total love and devotion to animals.
From that very first meeting the Iowa County Humane Society (ICHS) was formed. Over the last two years the society has developed bylaws, incorporated, built a community awareness program and moved into a new (hopefully) permanent facility.

The Pepin County Humane Society has been in business for close to 30 years. We are a very small shelter with only 5 dog kennels & 8 cat kennels. Because we're so small it's very difficult to find homes for all our homeless pets. Also, because we're so small we are able to get to know the animals that cross our path VERY well.

Our adoption policy is quite simple! First, you have to come into the shelter and find a pet that will suit your family. Then you fill out an application consisting of your name, address, veterinarian, and a short adoption agreement. We schedule a spay/neuter appointment for the animal and after the procedure is complete you pick your new pet up from Eagle River Animal Hospital in Eagle River. One thing that we would like to mention is that the Humane Society of Vilas County does not adopt dogs out to live outside.

Northside Pet Hospital is a veterinary hospital that treats small animals and exotics. We are not a shelter, but do take in surrendered, mistreated and stray animals and find them new homes. We often see animals that have medical problems which the client is unable to pay for the proper treatment . If the animals is potentially adoptable we take them in. Our staff donates our time and we treat the patients here. As soon as they are healthy they become adoptable. If, at any time the animal does not work out in their new home, we will gladly take them back.

Walworth County Humane Society was accepted by the state of Wisconsin as a non-profit, tax exempt organization in November of 1978. In 1985 the name was changed to Lakeland Animal Welfare Society (LAWS).
Lakeland Animal Shelter is owned and operated by Lakeland Animal Welfare Society. It is centrally located three miles south of Elkhorn, WI. on highway 67, and it is the only animal shelter in Walworth County. Its doors are open to the public six days a week except on legal holidays. The shelter is staffed by dedicated and trained employees. Volunteers also play a crucial role in meeting many of the shelter's special care needs.
A board of directors, elected by LAWS members, establishes the policies of the Society and the operation guidelines for Lakeland Animal Shelter.
At LAWS it is our goal to prevent cruel treatment to animals. We feel it is our job to educate the public on the needs of pets, to help enforce laws pertaining to animal welfare and to humanely end the suffering of any animal for which a proper home cannot be found.

We are a group of people who care very much what happens to homeless companion animals. Because there had been no provision made locally for stray animals, we serve as the animal shelter in our area. We respond to as many calls as our limited number of foster volunteers can manage. We are always looking for more foster volunteers willing to temporarily share their homes and their love with animals needing a hand.
