It takes a lot of hard work on the part of our generous volunteers to find homes for between fifteen and fifty kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs every week. While ADOPT has, on occasion, adopted dogs to homes out of state, we DO NOT ship animals. Adopt-A-Pet, Inc.We provide a safe refuge and a second chance for unclaimed animals from various municipal pounds and, space permitting, we accept other homeless, neglected or injured animals from their rescuers. Adopt-A-Pet is a "shelter without walls" - we do not own a shelter facility. All of our animals are boarded at cooperating animal hospitals or in volunteer foster homes until they are adopted by their new families. Animals remain with us for as long as it takes to find them a suitable permanent new home. Aid to Animals of Northern IllinoisAid to Animals is a Illinois shelter concerned with finding homes for some of the millions of homeless animals in our country. We take in cats and dogs. In the spring, there are many homeless pregnant cats who we place in foster homes. The kittens are spayed or neutered and then placed for adoption. The mama cats are spayed and also placed for adoption. Many times we also rescue dogs from shelters and holding facilities when their "time" is up. We try to rescue those sweet, loving animals that might find a home. We are strong advocates that adult dogs and cats can make the best pets for many reasons. Also, most potential adopters want puppies and kittens, however, when they realize the work and destruction involved, many times the kittens and puppies are given up to the shelter. Adults are calmer and learn quickly. They are extremely appreciative of the chance for a new home. Please consider an adult pet instead of a youngster.P. O.
