Sacramento Independent Animal Rescuers is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Our purpose is to aid stray, abandoned, and neglected animals. In addition to animals rescued and adopted by our organization, SIAR is also dedicated to help other independent animal rescuers find their foster animals the loving homes they deserve. To date, over 1100 dogs and cats have been rescued and placed into wonderful homes in the past few years. In order to provide these services, we work with the community shelters, rescue organizations, and individuals who have animals with special needs and place these animals in permanent homes after they reach a stage of wellness.

The Orphan Kitten Project is a non-profit program run by the Feline Medicine Club at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Orphaned and abandoned neonatal kittens under 4 weeks of age are taken in from the community and given a complete physical exam by the project coordinators. These kittens are then fostered by veterinary students who bottle raise them in their own homes. The kittens are weaned, FeLV tested, spayed or neutered, treated for any parasitic or bacterial infections, and received their first two FVRCP vaccinations before they are put up for adoption, usually by 10-12 weeks of age.

We are a group of networking Rescuers on the West Coast, primarily in Central & Northern Calif. who, together, help each other in saving pets from kill shelters, finding permanent homes, fostering and caring for pets while a home is found, pulling pets from our local shelters for Rescues in other areas, holding them while transport is arranged to get them to those Rescues, and help transport rescued pets to other rescue groups and permanent homes. We also do home visits in our respective localities for other Rescues to verify the home's suitability.
