N.O.A.H. (Northwest Organization for Animal Help) was founded in 1988 and opened its new Animal Adoption Center in May 2003. The goal of N.O.A.H. is stopping the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals in Northwest Washington and “Building a Bond for Life between pets and their families. Partnering with overcrowded local animal shelters in Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties, N.O.A.H. takes animals and gives them another chance for adoption.
N.O.A.H. also offers low-cost spay/neuter to low-income pet guardians, dog obedience classes, a gift shop, and established volunteer program. Since opening, over 4,100 dogs and cats have been adopted into new homes and over 11,000 pets have been spayed or neutered. N.O.A.H. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization supported by tax deductible donations.

The NW SPCA does provide Animal Control for the City of Oroville. It is our goal to keep animals from going to a regular "dog pound" and being destroyed after five days. After the animals time is up, we kick in as the NW SPCA and extend their time as long as we can so we can get them a home.
The contract we have with the city is so we as the NW SPCA can pick up those unwanted strays to give them a longer chance to get a home. We also pickup the lost pets and give them a better chance of getting back to their owners.

Northwood Animal Hospital Good Sam Program
We are a full service veterinary hospital that is committed to helping as many sick and injured animals as we can through our Good Samaritans program. All the animals we adopt out are up to date on their vaccines, have negative fecal exams, are dewormed and are flea-free. Our adoption fees are between $45 and $65 depending on the age and species. We require that all pets we adopt out be spayed or neutered prior to adoption if they are old enough or that a deposit be left to ensure they will be spayed/neutered at the appropriate age. We get a lot of kittens coming through our doors and we don't always have time to list them individually so feel free to call us and check on who's up for adoption.

We are a full service veterinary hospital that is committed to helping as many sick and injured animals as we can through our Good Samaritan program. NHS was authorized as a non-profit organization in 1987. Our shelter was opened in Oct. of 1996 on an 87 acre site. It is surrounded by beautiful rolling fields that change with the seasons, making our volunteer mowed walking trails a never-ending source of pleasure. We have 16 dog runs and 30 cat runs. The building also includes an office, receiving area, visitation room, cat and dog isolation areas, indoor and outdoor play areas for cats, three outdoor exercise runs and a 100 x 100 fenced play yard for dogs. Other areas include laundry & grooming, kitchen and storage rooms.
The following page has a brief history of Northwoods Humane Society and how we got to the point we are at today. It's been a long road but a very rewarding one and hopefully we can offer some inspirations and ideas for other groups who may be just getting started.
