The Humane Society of Wilkes is a volunteer organization. We are dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, the relief of suffering among animals, and the education of the public regarding humane treatment of animals. We support these goals through our member dues, tax-deductible donations, and fund-raising projects such as our annual Best Friends Calendar and booths at the Brushy Mountain Apple Festival. With these funds we have been able to: place billboards around the county encouraging spaying and neutering of pets, provide Kind News subscriptions to all kindergarten, first and second grade classrooms in Wilkes County, and work closely with Wilkes County Animal Control to place pets from their shelter into appropriate homes. We also help to pay for spaying and neutering of pets for residents of Wilkes County.

The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) was founded in 1976 to help address the needs of an ever-growing animal population. Originally, all animals were cared for in the homes of dedicated volunteers. In 1999 we moved into a modern facility in Fort Mill, South Carolina, with the capacity to house approximately fifty cats and fifty dogs.

Young County Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of all animals. We are strong advocates of "spay and neuter all pets" to reduce the overpopulation problems that we now face. Our shelter takes in an average of 120 pets per month and is forced to euthanize many wonderful pets due to lack of quality homes and lack of shelter space. There will never be enough homes available for all the dogs and cats being born today. The only answer to this problem is the spaying and neutering of all pets.
