Cat Overpopulation Planned Endeavor is a 501c3 non profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of stray and feral cats through sterilization and education. C.O.P.E. would like to see a day when no more cats are living homeless and forgotten on the streets. Until that day arrives, however, we are dedicated to spaying and neutering as many cats as we can, while providing care for colonies of feral cats and removing non-feral strays from the streets and placing them into our adoption program whenever possible.

The Cat People, an all-volunteer organization, was founded in October of 1990 in Bakersfield, California by two friends outraged about the actions of an urban landlord who trapped abandoned cats and drowned them. They soon gathered together a group of individuals who shared their concern -- and the group's mission grew to encompass the plight of homeless cats city-wide. Out of this grass-roots effort grew a nonprofit organization with a Board of Directors and a solid administrative base. The mission of The Cat People is to reduce cat overpopulation, through spay/neuter programs, and compassionately manage feral cat colonies..

Our primary mission is working with feral (wild) cat colonies that have committed caretakers. All the cats are trapped, tested for FELV and FIV, vaccinated and altered. Kittens and strays are placed in carefully screened adoptive homes (they wait at our vet or in foster homes until they are placed). Feral adults are returned to the colony. Once the colony is "finished", the caretaker's role becomes supplying food, water and shelter and picking up any stray that might wander by in search of a handout. Many of the caretakers then become volunteers to help in our fund raising efforts so we can help other colonies! Our accomplishments with respect to the kittens and strays that are placed in adoptive homes is fairly obvious. But what about the adult ferals? Originally, I thought of the goal of the neuter and release process as being primarily to prevent kittens from being born to suffer. But I have come to realize we accomplish a lot for the adult ferals as well. Freed from constant pregnancy, the female ferals plump up and start to look happy and healthy the way nature intended. Males also start to look much healthier and their roaming is greatly reduced - reducing the opportunities for the spread of disease and the possibility of being hit by a car. It is not a purrfect answer - we all wish they could have homes - but in today's world that just isn't realistic.

We are a very small,non-profit, STRICTLY NO-KILL 501(c)3 feline rescue group based in Murrysville, Pennsylvania. All of our kitties are placed into foster homes until they can find the best possible home. Our fosters live in a cageless environment. They are allowed to live in a true home environment. This not only socializes the cat, but also enables us to determine what type of personality each cat has. We strive to match each foster with the home that best compliments her personality.
