Communities Altering The Strays (CATS)Communities Altering The Strays (CATS) acts as an information resource center for people that want to help stray and feral cats in their neighborhoods. We advocate spaying and neutering of family pets, and actively promote TNR (trap/neuter/return). We give one-on-one advice to novice rescuers through telephone conversations and email, and are here to anwer any questions they have until they gain the confidence to manage their projects on their own. For people within our local communities, we give hands-on training and assistance in TNR. For senior citizens and physically challenged people, we also offer volunteer trappers, transport and post-op care for the cats until they are returned. We also have cats and kittens living in foster homes that we have available for adoption. The cats and kittens that appear on our website and Petfinder sites were rescued from the streets of surrounding towns. Some of the cats, especially kittens, come from cat colonies that we manage for local animal control. We are not a shelter and do not accept cats. We do offer internet exposure to pet owners who must part with their pets, and to independent rescuers of stray and feral cats. Chimps, IncCHIMPS INC. is a nonprofit 501(C)3-1 organization dedicated to furthering chimpanzee conservation through education. Here at our private sanctuary, CHIMPS INC. offers a recuperative home for released chimpanzees to live out their lives in dignity. Many chimpanzees in the United States suffer for the first 13 to 14 years of their lives in biomedical research, the entertainment field, or parks/zoos. Upon reaching adolescence, chimpanzees make the life threatening mistake of growing up. Traditionally, euthanasia was the next step, meaning that retirement centers and sanctuaries have not been necessary. Now that we are more aware of the 98.4% genetic compatibility of the chimpanzees to humans, it is no longer morally acceptable to murder our sibling species. Chimpanzees that have dedicated their lives to the human cause now find themselves unwanted and forgotten. Because no chimpanzee ever volunteered to be enslaved by humans, we are once again left to clean up our mess. Humans have the power to enslave these individuals for selfish purposes. Macoupin County Adopt-A-PetAdopt-A-Pet, established in 1983, is a not-for-profit, no-kill animal shelter located in Benld, Illinois, registered with and inspected by the State of Illinois. No state or federal funding is received; Adopt-A-Pet is supported solely by memberships, fundraisers and donations. Its mission is to rescue abandoned and/or abused pets and place them in loving homes. Adopt-A-Pet also accepts pets from families who no longer want or are unable to care for their pet. Local authorities and police departments call Adopt-A-Pet in cases of animal abandonment, abuse, or auto accidents involving an injured animal.
