Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson CountyThe Animal Welfare Society was formed to provide care and protection for suffering homeless and unwanted animals; to educate the public in respect to humane treatment of animals and to encourage and assist in the enforcement of laws against mistreatment of and cruelty to animals. Among the projects undertaken by AWS was a spay/neuter and adoption program in cooperation with Friends of Animals, Inc. and local veterinarians; cooperative efforts with the county on a rabies prevention program; and a project designed to increase knowledge of county children in proper pet care. Jefferson County Animal ControlJefferson County Animal Shelter is a kill shelter located in the tip of the Eastern Panhandle of WV, near Harper's Ferry and Charles Town. The shelter had a very high kill rate until June of 2006, when they started working with a volunteer to move as many adoptable dogs as possible into rescue. From June 2006 through December 2006, more than 100 dogs were adopted or taken into rescue. Pawprints and Purrs, Inc.Pawprints and Purrs, Inc. (P&PI) is a small all volunteer, animal non-profit rescue organization located in Keithville, Louisiana. We provide an animal educational service to the public by teaching the prevention of animal cruelty, pet guardianship responsibility, and basic cat and dog health care. Our rescue and adoption work is primarily taking an active part in TNR and assisting other feral cat care givers with the socializing, fostering, adopting, and transporting kittens and cats to their new forever homes in our immediate area. We strongly emphasize the value of rescuing and re-homing abandoned, neglected and homeless felines. We assist those in need by providing rescue, shelter, medical care, and locating permanent homes. Little Orphan Angels Animal RescueLittle Orphan Angels Animal Rescue (LOA) is a non-profit humane animal organization dedicated to the rescue and adoption of companion cats and dogs which are needlessly euthanized because they are homeless. LOA's founding members have over 10 years of combined experience in this volunteer based field and have rescued hundreds of animals from local shelters and from individuals who can no longer care for their animals. LOA promotes responsible pet guardianship by requiring all adopted animals to be tested and vaccinated for diseases, examined by qualified veterinarians and spayed or neutered at the appropriate age. LOA screens potential adoption applicants to ensure that the adoption of an animal has the highest possible chance for a successful, lifelong placement. Kelseyville is located in Lake County, approximately 2 hours north of San Francisco, and one hour north of Santa Rosa and the Napa Valley.
