BARC is a CITY animal control facility. The animals in this shelter are strays that are picked up off the street. They have 3 days after intake for the owners to find and reclaim them. Since the turnover is SO great, the animals listed may not be as current. IF you are interested in saving a life, PLEASE GO IMMEDIATELY TO THE SHELTER!!! Time is critical for these animals to be saved!

Larry N. White, D.V.M. has been the sole veterinarian at Briarcrest Veterinary Clinic, Inc. for 28 + years. Briarcrest Veterinary Clinic is NOT a drop-off center NOR a shelter for orphaned, injured or unwanted pets. Unfortunately, we are not accepting any displaced animals at this time but concentrating our efforts on finding homes for the orphaned pets in our care.

Jackie McNew and Wilma Lord have been rescuing abused and homeless animals for as long as they can recall. They opened their first shelter in the Houston "Heights" area in 1999 and named it "Mr K's Halfway House for Hound".
Mr. K's is named for one of the first stray dogs they brought in. While at Kroger on Airline Drive. Wilma noticed a stray dog that was mangy and was being kicked around. Wilma picked up the abused dog and brought him home and nursed him back to health. The mangy dog, given the name of Mr. K, is now healthy, full of life and is the namesake for the pet shelter.
Mr K's now provides shelter for more than 120 dogs and cats. All animals are either spayed or neutered and are available for adoption. To operate throughout the year, Mr. K's sole supports depends on donations from individuals or businesses and adoption fees. Mr K's is a non-profit no kill shelter.

The Animal Welfare Association is a 501 (c) (3) not for profit organization dedicated to helping the animals of LaGrange County Indiana. Our organization is totally funded by donations and we do a number of fundraisers each year to support our programs. We do not have a building to hold our adoptable pets. Many are removed form the County Shelter into Rescues and foster homes. If you have been to the Lagrange County Shelter you know the battle we wage for the animals. If you can be a foster home for one of the animals or can help in any way, please call Debbie 260-463-3406. We welcome any help in the mission of no pets wanting for a home.
