Converse Animal Shelter Inc.The Converse Animal Shelter, Inc is a non-profit organization that was begun in 1979. All funds are used for the benefit of the animals. 18,000 helpless, abandoned, unwanted, sick and lost animals have come through its gate. The shelter's goals are to provide the local area with a humane facility in order to care for unwanted, abused and abandoned animals until such animals can be placed in suitable adoptive homes. To impress upon all members of the community the fact that the acquisition of a companion animal represents a ten to fifteen year commitment; animals are not disposable commodities. South Texas Persian RescueWe are a rescue specializing in rescuing persians, himalayans, exotic shorthairs, and ragdolls. Most of our rescued cats are pulled from shelters. Some are given up by their owners due to family situations, financial situations, or a behavioral problem the cat is having. All cats are treated for any existing medical condition(s); they are spayed/neutered, FIV/FELV tested, and given all necessary immunizations before adoption; and any behavioral problem(s) the cat may have is addressed and resolved. WARM is a No-Kill refuge located in Conway and home to over 100 animals at any given time. For those animals that release or adoption proves impossible, our Conway refuge becomes a permanent home. WARM is organized by a board of directors and volunteers who donate their time toward helping the organization and the limited staff members. Julie Finlayson, the founder and executive director is a well known local naturalist with over 35 years experience in wildlife rehabilitation. Her education includes certificate in wildlife rehabilitation, Master in Science & Education, and a degree in Biology.
