For over 30 years, the Cheyenne Animal Shelter has extended the hand of kindness to neglected and abused companion animals in Cheyenne and Laramie County. Today, we are involved in an ever-expanding effort to accomplish a mission that goes beyond sheltering the homeless and unwanted pet population. We are a not for profit agency dedicated to placing animals before they are sent to the local shelter. We are not affiliated with the Gillette City/County Shelter. We are run completely by donations and always appreciate any kind of donation wether it be food, supplies, or a monetary donation. At present we do not have a shelter but that is our main goal and we are working toward it day by day
We are a Foster program only and our listed pets are either in foster care or with their owners who must place them. If at all possible they will remain with their owners since our foster space is limited.

The Animal Adoption Center is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, dedicated to increasing the number of animals adopted from shelters.
we have created a welcoming, quiet, homey environment in a downtown location, housing 8-12 dogs and 12 -14 cats at one time, awaiting their forever homes. For prospective adopters, this more low-key facility can be less overwhelming and less chaotic than a shelter environment. We rescue animals from shelters - both local and regional, often high-kill - temperament test them, spay/neuter them, and fully vaccinate them. The cats run amok in a free-roaming cat room, filled with toys, high places to climb, scratching posts, places to hide, and cozy baskets and napping places. The dogs only stay at the facility during our daytime hours of operation, in between walks about town and on the local trails, and go home every night to foster homes. Everyone who deals with an animal notates their observations. We therefore are quite familiar with our animals which, in turn, takes some of the unknown out of adopting a shelter animal - a big issue for some would-be adopters - again increasing the odds that a person will choose to adopt, rather than buy, their next pet. We also offer a 2 week trial foster period; anyone interested in an animal is welcome to foster for up to 2 weeks to see how the animal settles into their life and family. This has proved very effective in helping prospective adopters decide if this animal is indeed the one for them. A big part of our mission is also education and community involvement.
