The Preston County Animal Shelter is a municipal animal control facility located in Kingwood, in northcentral West Virginia.
We are the only animal control facility in a large, rural county. Space is limited and intake is high, so pets often do not remain very long. We are not a no-kill shelter, and our adoption rate is approximately 40%, with puppies and toy breed adult dogs having the highest adoption rate, adult dogs over 15 lbs., cats, and kittens having the lowest. If you are seriously interested in a pet listed here, please contact us as soon as possible.

Promise Animal League, Inc was formed for the prevention of cruelty to animals and educational purposes by a group of individuals who have been helping animals in the local community for over 25 years. Located in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia we take in unwanted, abused and abandoned cats, kittens and sometime dogs and puppies; we place them into foster homes until they are adopted into a permanent home. Our group of dedicated volunteers provides a pet food bank for other shelter/rescue groups in the 4 state area. We work with local veterinarian practices to hold cat spay/neuter clinics for the low income public. We also assist the public with trap, neuter and release of feral cats

The shelter is frequently overcrowded with pets who desperately need your help. Please consider adopting one of our dogs, cats, puppies, or kittens. If you cannot adopt, please help by spreading the word. Also remember the importance of spaying/neutering to help control pet overpopulation. As our organization is not affiliated with the Putnam County Humane Society (they are a separate organization), we are constantly in need of donations (i.e. cash donations, dog/cat food, newspapers, blankets, kitty litter, bleach, lysol, etc.). If you are looking for a special type or breed of animal, please call our shelter at 586-0249.

The Raleigh County Animal Rescue (RCAR) whose home base is located in Coal City, WV was active in rescuing our pet companions prior to becoming an organization in March 2003. The RCAR is a small "no-kill" organization and operates only through donations and volunteers. Currently we are dedicated to helping homeless, abandoned or abused animals. Our efforts are guided toward finding permanent homes for our animals. Along with this, we stress the importance of neutering and spaying all pets in order to maintain their good health and benefit society.
The Raleigh County Animal Rescue (RCAR), a no-kill shelter, and the Humane Society of Raleigh County (HSRC) a.k.a. Raleigh County Animal Shelter (RCAS), a kill shelter, are two totally different organizations

The Randolph County Humane Society believes that every dog and every cat is a living, feeling being, who more often than not, would make a wonderful companion if given a chance. We strive to increase those chances through our pet adoption services and support of companion-animal sterilization.. until none is homeless

S.O.S. Animal Shelter
S.O.S. (Save Our Strays) is a non-profit organization consisting of officers, board members and a lot of nice residents of Mingo County that really WANT to see a shelter built for our stray animals. We are trying to stop the abuse that goes on every day and help educate people about the proper care and responsiblilty of being a pet owner.
We encourage everyone to help control the pet population by having their pets spayed or neutered. Please help us educate the public about the importance of doing this. Our area is overpopulated with stray dogs and cats that are being left to starve. We need your help to put a stop to this kind of abuse and neglect.

Save a Kitty Feral-Cat Program, Inc. was formed in July, 2004 to educate citizens on the success of (TNR), Trap, Neuter, and Return as practiced by Alley Cat Allies. TNR is a full management plan in which stray and feral cats already living out in cities, towns, and rural areas are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and sterilized by veterinarians. Kittens and tame cats are adopted into permanent inside home. Healthy adult cats too wild to be house pets are returned to their familiar habitat under the lifelong care of volunteers who feed and monitor them each day.

Our Mission: The Silent Meow is a small rescue group that has one objective in mind - To save the lives of as many pets as we can. We are a non-profit, completely volunteer-run, all breed dog & cat rescue and adoption organization. All our adoptable pets are wormed and vaccinated before adoption. Before The Silent Meow Rescue will place a dog/cat in his/her forever home, we will do our best to make sure their needs, as well as their new owners, meet each other's needs both physically and emotionally. The Silent Meow Rescue looks for people with patient and loving hearts and an understanding of their new pet in mind.
