The Preston County Animal Shelter is a municipal animal control facility located in Kingwood, in northcentral West Virginia.
We are the only animal control facility in a large, rural county. Space is limited and intake is high, so pets often do not remain very long. We are not a no-kill shelter, and our adoption rate is approximately 40%, with puppies and toy breed adult dogs having the highest adoption rate, adult dogs over 15 lbs., cats, and kittens having the lowest. If you are seriously interested in a pet listed here, please contact us as soon as possible.

The Marshall County Animal Rescue League consists of a small group of dedicated individuals who through enthusiasm and commitment have turned an "unsheltered" county into a county that has an outstanding shelter program. Our Humane Society is contracted by the Marshall County Commission to oversee animal shelter operations. We work continually to provide progressive programs for the betterment of the shelter and the animals.
Marshall County was the only West Virginia Shelter invited to attend the Pets for Life Training sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States and Science Diet Pet Food. Formed in 1977, the Marshall County Animal Rescue has earned two National Awards. We were selected by the Humane Society of the United States as the national Humane Education Achievement Award winners, and recognized nationally by Paws to Recycle Programs in the "Most Community Support" category.
