Pendleton Animal Welfare ShelterPendleton Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS) of Pendleton Co., WV was formed in April, 2005 by a group of concerned Pendleton County residents. There has never been an animal shelter in Pendleton prior, not even a dog pound! We have been able to save some pets over this time, but would like to increase our capacity and effectiveness because there are many more pets we are unable to help due to a lack of funding and we are the only option for homeless animals in Pendleton. Though we are are relatively new, we do have our 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status, so all donations are tax deductible and used to pay veterinary bills and basic costs like phone, supplies, kennels & crates. Humane Society of Pocahontas CountySince its founding in 1998, the Humane Society of Pocahontas County has been instrumental in spaying and neutering hundreds of pets and strays and arranging adoptions of many animals. Our rescue efforts have saved starving horses, lost and abused animals and most recently helped to shut down a cat breeding operation which was out of control. Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson CountyThe Animal Welfare Society was formed to provide care and protection for suffering homeless and unwanted animals; to educate the public in respect to humane treatment of animals and to encourage and assist in the enforcement of laws against mistreatment of and cruelty to animals. Among the projects undertaken by AWS was a spay/neuter and adoption program in cooperation with Friends of Animals, Inc. and local veterinarians; cooperative efforts with the county on a rabies prevention program; and a project designed to increase knowledge of county children in proper pet care. Jefferson County Animal ControlJefferson County Animal Shelter is a kill shelter located in the tip of the Eastern Panhandle of WV, near Harper's Ferry and Charles Town. The shelter had a very high kill rate until June of 2006, when they started working with a volunteer to move as many adoptable dogs as possible into rescue. From June 2006 through December 2006, more than 100 dogs were adopted or taken into rescue. Mineral County Humane Society, Inc.The Mineral County Humane Society is a small group of local animal lovers working to assist our 4 legged friends who cannot help themselves. Some of our most recent projects have included donating materials to have dog houses built and distributed to those in need. Offering to assist with funding for having pets spayed/neutered. Working with shelters to help find permanent homes for unwanted pets, as well as a list of other activities. These things are all made possible by those donating time to the projects as well as the generous monetary donations of members and individuals in the community.
